=====================================================
G'day!
I too am having problems with WordPerfect Suite 8 PRO (build
8.0.0.390).
It runs on a stand-alone IBM-compatible Pentium 200 which
originally (when bought brand new
in October 1997) had 32 MB RAM, but now (since January 1998)
has 64 MB RAM.
The extra memory was added because the memory resource meter
shows that the available
memory just leaks and leaks and leaks -- despite installing
MS's patch for Kernel32.dll. I also,
before installing the extra 32Mb of RAM, stopped using the
DAD bar, because someone
suggested it used up the memory, but that seemed to make no
significant difference, so now I run
DAD bar (usually).
I'm a lawyer and use WordPerfect continuously. I also
continuously use CorelCentral for the
diary facility. Apart from that I access e-mail every day,
use the internet often (but not every
day) and use several DOS programs (an accounting package
known as KGDATA and a
database of client information known as CLINDX) several
times every day. Of course, Explorer
gets used, to find files sometimes more conveniently than
through WordPerfect. When accessing
the internet I usually use Peakjet's latest version (1.56
methinks). Norton AntiVirus is installed
and its Autgo-Protect feature is always running, but NAV is
scheduled to search the whole hard
drive only once a week. WordPerfect is set to the
English(Australian) language. I do not send
or receive faxes through my computer, but the computer's
printer (emulating HP LaserJet III) is
also the fax machine and the photocopier ( a Lanier 5010
Multi Function Device).
The typical error messages I get are:
16Mar98 CSCAPE caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 014f:bff782af
17Mar98 As above, but also with:
CCWIN8 caused IPF in
module CCWIN8.EXE at 014f:0044aa8e
and also with:
CCWIN8.EXE caused IPF in
module MFC42.DLL at 014f:5f402181
23Mar98 An unusual crash resulted in:
ITP caused an IPF in
module CRAM32.DLL at 014f:004319d4
02Apr98 PFPPOP80 caused IPF in
module PFIT80.DLL at
014f:345474a4
03Apr98 When attempting to extend beyond the bottom
of the visible part of the page the
border of the box around the time set aside in my diary
diary for a particular appointment, the
following resulted:
CCWIN8 caused IPF in
module CCWIN8.EXE at 014f:00493ba9
together with:
CCWIN8.EXE caused IPF at
module MFC42.DLL at 014f:5f406206
and after undertaking "recovery" of the Planner, upon trying
to do the same diary-box border
extension, the following happened:
CCWIN8 caused IPF in
module CCWIN8.EXE at 014f:00493ba9
together with:
CCWIN8.EXE caused IPF at
module MFC42.DLL but this time at
014f:5f402181
The effect of my use of the computer can be gauged by the
following typical readouts from the
Resource Meter (which my poor secretary has been logging for
weeks!):
25Mar98
Switch on computer System res 97% User res 97%
GDI res 99%
Start CC
85% 88% 85%
Start WP
73% 73% 74%
At 11:05, restart computer: 97%
97% 99%
Start CC
90% 90% 90%
Start WP
75% 77% 75%
What is the significance of almost all the errors being at
014f ??
What other information do you need from me to give me the
fix which will get the Suite working
without the apparently inexplicable draining of memory
resources?
When the Service Pack 3 is available "next week" from the
internet, will that fix these problems?
Should I, in the meantime, install the Floppy disk version
(3 files) which I have already
downloaded, but have not yet run? Does the floppy version
not have the password protect
problems which are apparently associated with the "main"
version, wghich you have withdrawn?
If the comments of that corpse in Texas about video drivers
apply to my situation (do they?) please explain just how I
go about right-clicking on an icon that doesn't exist on my
desktop (and yields nothing if I right-click on the icon in
the DAD bar).
