This issue has come up here before in various forms.
1) If you have an ATI 3d card. Please contact ATI for the
newest drives. ATI may also have you edit your system.ini
file.
2) Clear out all your temp directories of any *.tmp files
and go to your browser settings and remove all caches (you
can keep subscription information) --- then run scandisk
and be sure to check the box that asks if you want it to
fix any errors. Tell it yes. When it finishes, reboot. Run
defrag. Reboot. Remove everything from memory including
crashguard - launch Paint - can you work now?
3) When you crash - do you get any specific error messages?
What does the IPF point to (location of crash)
4) How many fonts did you install? Corel does not
recommend
more that 500 fonts installed on Windows 95 at any one
time.
If this is the case please get this
document - ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/general/2102.txt

Hello Barbara,
I meant to post that question in the above string "Perplexing Lock-up"
but goofed. (1): I believe I do have the latest driver for my ATI, but am
going to check again.
(2) after restarting the system (including emptying all temps ect.,scan
disc and defrag) I can work for a while then the same freeze.
(3) I don't get any error messages at all, just a total freeze, mouse
doesn't move, Alt>Ctrl>Delete doesn't work---only re-boot frees up the
system---
(4) currently only 50 fonts (down from 250 or so)
??? I'm off to check those links Thank you
Go through the scandisk defrag routine again and re-boot. Then try 1)
to see if the lockup will happen when you launch Win95 in safe mode.
This isn't a permanent fix just a way to get a clean system to see if
the lockup happens there. Then, reboot and go to the system applet.
Move the performance graphics tab to the left by about two notches and
see if that helps.
Time to go looking for a better driver, I'm afraid. Keep in mind that
newer doesn't necessarily mean better, and you may actually have better
luck with either an older manufacturer's driver or another compatible
Win95 driver.

There is another issue about it: if you use Windows95 OSR-2 the chance on
having this kind of lock-ups for all programs is there.
Microsoft fixed some bugs with this release, but introduced more (it is always
the same). Try to get a hold of an early version of Windows95 and reinstall
your PC from scratch if you have all sorts of problems. Try to run the programs
and if you still have problems try to update hardware drivers from your vendor.
Another possibility is using the Microsoft videocard drivers included with
DirectX 3 instead of the vendor specific drivers. Maybe you loose some
performance or utilities, but it seems to solve a lot of crash problems.
If your systems is running smoothly, never upgrade a driver again. I did with
the new winsock from Microsoft and as a result I have to format and make a
clean install again... and I did know better....
