I am new to Corel & have a project which I need to use Gill Sans but I don't
see it listed in the font files on my Corel cd. Is it on there just listed
as a different name? If not could someone please post a couple of
variations for me. Thanks in advance, Greg S.

I'm sure you meant to say "If anyone has any freeware fonts that are
similar to Gill Sans, I'd sure like to see 'em." Asking people to post
copyrighted material is suborning theft, of course, and I'm sure you
didn't really mean to do that.

The "Humanist 521" family on your Corel distribution CD is Bitstream's
version of Gill Sans.

Rich, #1 thank you for your time in responding & giving me the info I
needed. #2 I try to maintain my integrity in life. I don't steal or do
things in an illegal way & I don't expect others to either. I appreciate
your concern for copy righted material & I always try to respect that.
Being new to the news groups I'm still not sure of the proper terminology
for various things.

Again thanks for your help, Greg S.

'Kay. No offense intended, and none taken. It's unfortunate that the
relative ease with which files can be passed around has lead some
folks to be, ah, less than careful about the provenance of the material
they may be posting. It's also lead some cynical ol'timers like me to
be too quick to assume the worst.

Look for the Bitstream Font Navigator on one of your installation disks.
If you have it, among other things it will do is give you the "standard"
name for some of the equivalent Bitstream fonts.

Alternately, there is a list compiled by Jon Pastor and Mark Overton
that lists Bitstream vs industry standard names. This thread is already
crossposted into *way* too many groups, though. Follow-up in
comp.graphics.apps.corel if you want the list posted there, or let me
know if you'd prefer it via e-mail.

Food for thought:

Taking into consideration that Gill Sans was created between 1928 and 1930
and we have been using it for nearly seventy years along with the fact that
it is freely available to anyone who wishes to conduct a simple search for
it, do you really thing that Eric Gill (who is unfortunately dead, by the
way) is concerned about the copyright situation. He, along with Jan
Tschichold, is propably very pleased that we are still using a beautiful
typeface.

Gill Sans is a trademark of the Monotype Corporation. The actual Gil
Sans font can not be freely used unless you pay for it.

As previously indicated, the Humanist 521 font included with CorelDraw
is similar.

Rather than endlessly rehashing the same arguments with people who
seem to be determined to find some justification for the theft of
intellectual property, I refer you to http://www.typeright.org/

If, after you have read and understood the material there you still
feel that "it's old enough, so we can give it away" is a defendable
position, please followup in comp.fonts.
