I have had Corel Linux 1.0.0.1 on the shelf for a couple of years and have
only just got round to trying to install it on my Dell Inspiron 7000 with
Windows 98.
A catalogue of woe.
I started installation from a boot floppy. When the process of installing
graphics completed a series of vertical bands was present. It appeared that
the hardware had probably not been properly recognised.
I decided to press on in the hope that I could sort the settings out later.
I selected Standard Installation in a Windows partition and took the drastic
step:- "Next"
For an interminable period the machine appeared to be repetitively search
the CD remaining on 10% complete.
I finally selected "Cancel" and exited.
I now find that I have sections of my hard disk assigned to Linux as ext2
and swap file. There is nothing in them, but they seem to have captured
about 1.5Gb of hard disk.
Running defrag. and looking at the disk map tells me that the store area is
occupied by a file: 00032242.img. A search of C-drive fails to find any such
file.
Running Partition Magic identifies that I have only one partition, namely
the C-drive but it contains Linux ext2 and swap file and confirms that I
have lost access to 1.5Gb.
Help! How do I recover from this without formatting and rebuilding the whole
system?
