I'm trying to install Corel Linux on my current laptop (at the moment 'taken
over' by WinXP).
The cd boots, the splash screen appears, and after detecting hardware it
fades out, the CD ejects and my laptop reboots.
Another user reported this problem and was advised it might be an
incompatible graphics card or a hard disk configuration CL did not like.
I've checked the compatibility list and my graphics card (SiS 300 chipset)
should be supported- and I also tried installing CL on a second desktop
computer (also taken over by WinXP) and it went on with no problems.
I'd like to know, if you'd be so kind, if any of the following would help:
1. my hard disk is almost 20GByte, should I repartition it into smaller
'chunks' as this might be confusing an OS made in 1999? {I know thats a lame
one but I thought I should ask...}
2. Would it be worth, even though the desktop PC had no problems with it,
removing WinXP, formatting the disk and trying Linux again? Or would it be
several hours hassle for no good reason?
3. If none of this will work, is it possible that Mandrake Linux (newest
version 9.0 released a couple of months ago) might succeed where my copy of
Corel Linux (version 1.0 I think, maybe 3 years old) has failed?
Sorry for the lengthy email, I'd really appreciate any advice anyone might
have...
Many many thanks,
Karl.
