I'm about to upgrade my Corel Draw 8 to version 12 and I'm a little
apprehensive....
I have Ventura 8 installed and use it often for book editing. Each book has
graphics linked to CD8. Will there be a problem between CV8 and CD12 ?
Should I upgrade to CV10 in the same time ?
I've got Win 2000 Pro SP4
Should I keep version 8 on my computer and install version 12 in another
directory?
Thanks for your reassurance... and Happy Thanksgiving to all Americans out
there.

Not much of a problem, just a minor nuisance. However the best way to
save *for use in Ventura 8 OR 10* in Corel Draw 12 is to save or export
as CMX-5. That option is wayyyyyy down the list of save options. CDR-12
"native" CMX is CMX-12 which is not totally compatible with either
Ventura 8 or 10.

I use Ventura 10 with CDR 12 all the time with no problems. Ventura 8
had been taken off the system before CDR-12 was born, so I can't comment
too much about that.

Thanks alot, I'll keep that in mind if I upgrade to V10.

For my own experience on this, FWIW, see the recent thread "Blowing away
Draw 8".

(Although I use CD9 rather than CD8, the same points apply. And while I
continue to use V8 in preference to V10, others have different views on
their relative merits, basically depending on how stable V8 has been on
their system and how serious V10's new b*gs are to them. A wander
through old threads will give you a good feel for the pros and cons.)

Personally, I'd definitely keep CD8 installed after installing CD12.
They co-exist fine, provided CD12 is installed in separate directories.

It would also be a good idea to keep V8 installed if you upgrade to V10.
That way you can test V10 to see if there are more pros than cons for your
type of work. Personally, I need to keep V8 on my system because of the
Spell Checker *bug* and other reasons, but I love to work in V10 because of
the speed and stability. You can also Save As V8 if you need to go backward
for any reason.
