Just be aware that CDR-12 can only make CMX too-high-rev-level or CMX
too-low-rev-level.

I.E. CMX from Corel Draw 12 can only be rev 12 (too high for even
Ventura 10) or rev 5 (equivalent to CDR-5 CMX) which does not support a
some graphic effects at all. So if CMX is your preferred input to CDR
you may find that a little frustrating.

Otherwise, I can't think of any reason that CDR-8 would be required as
long as CDR-12 is outputting satisfactory rev 8 CDRs. There is no
requirement for CDR at all listed, but they sure make good running mates.

Strangely this idiosyncrasy in Draw 12 impacts Ventura 10 more than
Ventura 8 as Ventura 10 is the one that really prefers CMX files to
CDR-- Ventura 10 will accept up to CDR-11 CDR files but ignores the
embedded CMX data which can make Ventura 10 very slow, especially in
print preview and print, if many CDR files are present (and a CDR in a
header or a footer counts on each page it appears on!!!!)

This limitation also seems to apply (here, at least) to cmx embedded in
Draw version 8 files created by Draw 12. This forces Ventura 8 to create
its own cmx for these cdr files, greatly lengthening the time required
for importing these files and printing pages with these graphics.

For this reason (primarily, but not solely) I have kept Draw 9
installed, as a "filter" for creating cdr version 8 with cmx embedded
files that Ventura 8 is happy with, even though it is often faster to
create the graphics in the first place using Draw 12 (the snapping and
guideline features are vastly improved, and Draw 12 is definitely
happier than Draw 9 with current Matrox video drivers).

If you feel a desperate need to get rid of Draw 8, you may need to
switch to using eps files, rather than cdr files, for importing these
types of graphics into Ventura 8. The inherent limitations of cmx have
always made this a relatively attractive option for complex files, anyway.

My own attitude, though, is: if I've got the disk space, why get rid of
an application which I know to serve a useful purpose, when it happily
co-exists with the later version, as Draw 8 and Draw 9 do with Draw 12?
