Is there a file or something I can edit so that CV8's equation editor uses
the font MT Symbol instead of Symbol as its default for maths symbols,
Greek, etc.?

As Symbol can be a bit of pain, I now always use MT Symbol instead ...

Rich,

don't know if it helps and will work:

Try this:

Open Equation Editor, second tab (Typefaces?, types?, fonts? (german:
Schrift)

Look for Symbol, change font.

Hi Rich,

What do you like about MT Symbol vs Symbol? Curious.

Well, I've had problems with Symbol and PostScript/PDF files on Win 2000 -
despite only the T1 font being installed, occasionally Symbol characters
won't appear.

Also, despite my best efforts at keeping the TT Symbol font uninstalled by
default, it randomly installs itself (or, rather, unidentified programs
install it), so I end up with both the T1 and TT Symbol fonts installed -
not good! I have to remember to always check that both versions aren't
installed - but sometimes I forget to do so ...

Some programs will only work with TT Symbol - so I have to uninstall the T1
version and install the TT one, then remember to reverse this later!

Lastly, MT Symbol has an italic variant - which means I can have sloping
Greek maths variables - having upright Greek in maths is very old fashioned.
It's a pity there isn't a bold variant! (If anyone knows of a version of
Symbol that has bold, could you let me know!

MathematicalPi 4 (Adobe) has bold greek, but it's not a version of Symbol
(IOW, the mapping for some characters will not match).

It's not a Symbol font but if you need Greek letters in bold, use
Palatino Linotype that comes with Windows. You can rearrange the Greek
characters so that Ventura can see them using the ChCMAP utility we're
discussing right now in another thread.
