OK, here I go again - ramblings about custom UI/skins in Windows XP.
I've been using this for about a week now and I see no reason to return to
the standard Windows XP interface - au contrare ... wait till you see what
you can do NOW with Ventura!
a) roll-up Library windows!
b) roll-up ANY window/dialog you want!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen ... you heard that right! Step right up and see
for yourself.
Notice here that I have a number of dialogs open (Page Tag, Paragraph Tag,
Text Properties) as well as a few Libraries ... all ROLLED-UP and out of the
way, but instantly available...

Here I've rolled-down the Library...

And here I've rolled-down the Paragraph Tag dialog...

And here I've rolled-UP the application window!!

Now ... I KNOW there are some out there/here that have always wanted their
Library windows to roll-up out'a the way. Well, now you have it!
Granted, I've done NO serious testing of this as regards system resources -
that is, it could be demanding on your system if you were to Open and
roll-up/down ALL of your dialogs instead of Closing them when you're not
using them. So . . . use this with caution - however, I've had run with
Library windows resized (out of the way) as my normal method of operation
and it causes no problems. Whether that holds true for other (or LOTS
of...) dialogs, I don't know.
If nothing else . . . consider this the Plastic Surgery of Ventura
development. If we can't get Corel to develop Ventura . . . we can take it
to Veverly Hills for a face lift and get a whole new look! :) 'Veverly
Hills'? Naahhh ... rather, 'Ventura Boulevard'. I'm sure there's a plastic
surgeon somewhere on Ventura Blvd.
That's me.

Allan,
Though I'm impressed a bit of a new look of your environment,
but it seems two (or even three in my case) monitors is a lot
better solution. Trust me, LOL.

You gotta remember that Allan dos all his work on a puny laptop screen,
so he's got lots of incentive to do this wacky sh*t. <vbg>
Interesting stuff, Allan. I like that roll-up thing, but I'm not too
thrilled with the current look.

I do have a dual-monitor system in my office and when necessary (doing lots
of paging) I'll use it - but lately I've been doing a lot of programming
which doesn't require dual-monitors.
Oh, plus my office is in total shambles as our bathroom went through a
complete gutting and renovation. The office became the 'dumping ground' for
tools, etc... One day I'll move back in there - but for now, I do
everything from this laptop.

And I'll bet that you did at least some of it yourself -- remember, I
warned you about home improvement projects when you bought that place!

Actually, I hired it out to a friend. I helped him, but left all the
professional work/decisions to him. Here's a floorplan I drew-up for it -
the key to this design was the tub on a 45 degree angle with the plumbing in
the MIDDLE of the room. Needless to say, this is the LAST time my friend
says he'll be doing a 45 degree tub - says the plumbing and ceramic tile
work was a 12 out of 10 difficulty!! But . . . . . he did a splendid job!
www.shearer.ca/Images/Bathroom.pdf
(ignore the first 2 pages 'plan A' design ... we went with 'plan B' on pages
3 and 4)
Heh ... and you know, I did a quick design of the 45 degree ceramic tile
layout-plan in CorelDRAW just for visuals, and in the end (note: he did NOT
use it), the CorelDRAW layout matched what is on the floor! He was quite
surprised - as he had first mocked the fact that I had done it on a computer
.... "laying tile is an art, you can't design it on a computer". heh heh ...
oh YES you can. :) And leave it to me and I'll AUTOMATE it TOO!
