Publish as PDF has made it possible to send Ventura documents to anybody. I
love it. But now Ventura will not make PDF files anymore. I have uninstalled
and reinstalled. No updates have been made and no new hardware or software
installed. Any clue? Anyone?
The customized workspace was still there after reinstalling V10.

I gather you do not have Acrobat (one of the essential tools for
graphics woprk these days!)?

I do have acrobat reader of course.

It is the strangest thing, publish to PDF worked just fine, and now it
doesn't.

Using XP by the way.

Well, Reader can't help you create pdfs. :>)

I'm one of those who swears by Jaws, having had my fill of Acrobat
troubles. If you don't want to spend even that much, you can set up
Ghostscript to do what you need.

As for Publish to PDF, I have a vague recollection of someone else
posting about its sudden demise, but a quick search in the archives
didn't turn up the thread (if there was one). I hope that mentioning
that jogs someone else's memory.

Have you made any changes in your system or software lately? Installed
XP SP2? Changed a printer driver? Anything else seemingly unrelated?

Hi,

Try to delete all workspace in Documents and settings/user/.../Ventura
10 folder. Customizations will be lost, but Ventura on start up will try
to create new workspace. In bad case you must un-install all Corel
software from system and manually delete from registry all, related to
Corel and reinstall all again.

Similar problem with PDF was earlier in Draw 10, and if I recalling
correctly, such steps solves problem...

Before you go that far, you may want to try loading V10 while holding
the F8 key -- this will reset the workspace to the default workspace,
which may be enough to straighten things out.

Perhaps it would help to describe the symptoms a bit more:

Is Publish As PDF available on the menu?

Does the Save As PDF dialog come up when you select Publish As PDF?

What happens when you click Save? Anything? Is a file created at all?

Does the problem occur with all PDF Styles?

Any other clues that may help figure out what is happening?

....nothing turned out well.

tried loading with the F8 key pressed, sucessfully deleted all files and
reinstalled. V10 refuses to make PDS files from VP-documents.

Any other ideas? Would be grateful as I was in progress of sending documents
to customers and others.

In the absence of other suggestions, your quickest solution would be to
purchase Jaws via download.

Thank you, Eric! This must be best user-support site on the web.

When I click publish as PDF, the process starts, but the indicator show 0%,
then it finishes, makes a file, but they are all 1kb and they can not be
opened due to the following message: The file is damaged and can not be
repaired.

It is the same for all PDF styles, using preset choices.

No other clue, there was no utdates, no new soft- or hardware installed.

Funny thing is that total removal and reinstalling didn't help

Maybe I should install XP SP2?

Hmmm. I have two thoughts: first, that your PDF presets have somehow
become corrupted; second, that something is "funny" in your pub(s)
that's giving the PDF engine heartburn.

For the first, try deleting the PDF presets INI file (after making a
backup, of course):
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Corel\Ventura10\Config\suitepdf.ini

Hidden files must be displayed for you to find this file in Explorer. I
don't know that this file is reset when the workspace is reset--it
perhaps should be, but it isn't stored with other workspace settings, so
I expect it's persistent through a reset.

For the second, are all your attempts to create a PDF from the same pub,
or from pubs based on the same stylesheet? What happens if you create a
new pub from the original default.vp template, type a few words, then
try to create a PDF? If it works, there's something in your pub(s)
that's giving Publish As PDF heartburn, and you'll have to isolate it.
Could be a bad graphic--if you had another means of creating PDFs such
as Adobe Distiller (part of the full Acobat package), you'd be able to
track the page at which it fails and start there. I assume JAWS has such
a progress function as well. Try printing selected portions, try a quick
rebuild as described here:
http://www.draw.nu/venturafaq/showarticle.asp?A=62

Hope this helps.

P.S. Not a good idea to change the subject of thread mid-thread. Some
newsreaders/indexers apparently lose track of the thread that way, and
the ultimate solution could be lost under a meaningless subject (e.g. in
Google, which indexes this group).

Forgot to note: close V10 before you do this!

Kind of what I was thinking as well. What's weird is that it used to
work. I've been wracking my brain trying to think of any system changes
that could affect this, but I can't really think of any since the
Publish as PDF module is based on Ventura's PS capabilities, so most of
the functions are internal to the program.

Will try to delete the ini-file

Attempts are from different pubs, from V8 and from V10. V10 is reinstalled
with only default workspace, made a simple pub with only one line of text,
nothing else. Didn't work.

I remember I did try to make PDF of a large file, a book with lot of
graphics, V10 couldn't make it. Do not remember if I have any PDFs after
that. But that couldn't possibly be it?

Got the advice about thread mid-thread, thx.

V8 does not have direct-to-PDF capability.
