I am using Corel Photo House v5.00. All I want to do is take my jpg
picture, crop it and wind up with a 4x6 inch picture that I can upload to a
photo developer. Sounds so simple, but seems impossible. When I get the
image from my files, I cannot crop the desired portion of my image to an
exact 4x6 size without distorting the image. If I start with a blank frame
exactly 4x6, I cannot get my picture into the frame. The HELP menu says...
create your image in the correct size by... choosing that size from the Type
box on the Image Properties notebook page when you start your image. If I
go to Create Image-Start With a Blank Image and choose 4x6 Photo Tall, I get
an empty frame called New-1. When I then try to get my photo (Get Image), a
2nd frame is opened with my picture in it (but not in the 4x6 frame). Well,
you see my problem. I want to take my picture, select a piece of it and
stuff it into a 4x6 frame. How? Thank you in advance for any help you can
give me. Mike.

I don't have version 5 however you should be able to go to
IMAGE/PROPERTIES and set the size of the file to 4x6 ... just ensure
that you select "maintain proportions" (or similar). Does this not work
for you?

Hi Joell.

Unfortunetly, your suggestion does not seem to work First I get an image,
then I click on Image and Image Properties. I set the image size to 4x6
inches. Whether or not I click on "Maintain Aspect Ratio", the result is a
picture that is distorted. That is, the people in the picture become very
skinny as if the picture was pushed in from the sides. Very discouraging.
Any suggestions?

Thanks, Mike.

Well... that really shouldn't be doing that! WHen you have the Image
Properties dialogue box up and have checked the "maintain aspect ratio"
then change only ONE of the attributes (say, the top one to 4"). The
other number will change to the proper number to maintain aspect. If
it's bigger than 6 then you need to crop some off the sides. If it's
smaller then you need to take some off the top.
See if that works.

Hello Joell,

This is not working. You mention cropping which I understand and can do.
However, I want to wind up with a picture that is 4x6. The Help Menu for
"Create Image (Start With a Blank Image) says "...image size refers to the
actual, physical dimensions of the image at its output (usually printed).".
Well, this is what I want; a picture, when printed, that is exactly 4x6
inches in size. I mean, this is basic. If I create an image at the
beginning that is 4x6, I get a blank frame. Okay, now what? I cannot get a
picture into that blank frame without either distorting the picture or
eliminating the frame. What is the purpose of giving me a choice of a
picture size at the beginning of a session? So that wind up with a picture
of that size when I am done. The Create Image menu gives me a choice of
sizes: 3x5, 4x6, Custom, Postcard, etc. There is a reason for giving me
these choices, but how do I crop a picture into the 4x6 frame? Does anyone
do this? If so, how?

Thanks, Mike.

The problem is this (and it is with any photo editing program). Your
original image is not the right proportions to be exactly 4 x 6. When
you force into a frame that is 4x6 it will distort. The trick is to crop
or size the image to the right proportions. I have contacted another
c-tech who actually has this program and he should be stopping by
shortly to help us here!
