My Corel 9 thumbnails .CDR files but all I get on .CPT files is the icon. I
want them to thumbnail. I have consulted the manual and the My
Computer/Folder Options/Filetypes but the box for this file type seems no
different from .CDR or any of the others which DO thumbnail.
I view them using Scrapbook to select images; that's OK but thumbs would be
convenient.
What is the procedure please?

Thank you

Mark.

Sounds like you have more than one corel program installed and windows is
confusing the file associations.

Try right clicking on one of your .cpt files WHILE HOLDNG
SHIFT. Your dialogue window will have an "open with"
option, choose it, then find the program you want to open
that file type with, and make sure the checkbox on the bottom
is checked ("alway use this program to open this type of file").

I cant think of anything else, I have PP9 and dont see any
setting to enable or unenable thumb icons, but I do have
them.

Thanks I tried that but it doesn't work. I put the CD9 installation disk in
but the only thumb utility it lists as available for install is the thumb
utility for .cdr files, which I have got.
On View/Folder options I have Corel Photopaint.exe listed as the application
to open .CPT files. It should thumbnail but it doesn't.
All very strange.
Does yours thumb .CPT?
Thanks

Mark.

Well, maybe it was just PP11 demo, which I have installed giving
me the thumbs.

I disassociated .cpt entirely from windows, and after reassoc. it
with PP9, all I am getting is the standard icon. Maybe PP9 doesnt
do picture icons?

No, PhotoPaint 9 doesn't do thumbnails, unfortunately.

Hi,

sadly ver9 doesn't 'do' preview icons, but if really want one, you can save
the .CPT as ver8, then you will get an icon.

Suddenly a light bulb on top of my head has illuminated! Thank you Paul
Johnson.
Since versions change as improvements are added, what advantages do version
9 .cpt files have over version 8? If there are none I might as well save
them as v 8.

Hi Mark,

there is a downside, in that if you open and edit the file again and save
it, it'll save as ver9 - you have to remember to save as ver8 if you want to
keep the preview icon.
Oh, and you can't embed ICC profiles with ver8, though, personally, I don't
find that to be much of a big deal.

Cheers,

Paul

Yes, I have just tried that and if the v7/8 is opened again from wherever it
is it does save it back to a v9. If you "Save as" v7/8 at the start of a
session, though, you can simply click on "Save" or hit "Ctrl S" and it will
save to the same v7/8 file all session long.

For me that's usable and the files left on my desktop/in the artwork folder
between sessions are now conveniently thumbnailed.

The "ICC Profiles"; is that what it was all about, the change from 7/8 to a
blind icon on v9? If that is so it seems a high price to pay for a feature
most people will never use.

It's a wonderful package. Is it the work of a huge and changing team of
software writers or is there some mighty genius at the heart of it do you
think?
Is there any single individual notable in the development of the Corel
Graphics Suite?

Mark.

Mark is this trick you are doing for PP9 the pp9 from the
corel 9 suite? I have the PP9 standalone and the save as
7/8 trick is not producing thumbnail icons for me.

just curious.

Hi Mark,

using the PCE version of the 9 suite here, and I'm afraid that I have no
experience of the standalone version of Paint. Saving as 7/8 gives me a
preview icon, but I can't speak for the standalone. Anyone else any
knowledge?

Cheers,

Paul

Are we talking thumbnails as in seen if in windows explorer or are we
talking preview thumbnails as in being seen in the 'Open' dialogue?

For the windows explorer might be the 'thumbnail display' was not
installed or is not available with standalone.

Version 9 does not display thumbnails for PP9 anyway - just thinking
for those saving backwards where it does not work.
