Have a look at http://www.gardenhose.com. Our imagelists make PP's Image
Sprayer come alive.

DigArts Software makes several image-list products for Photo-Paint. Jungle
3D is the latest and it does tree and foliage textures really well.

There are a couple of demo lists on the Downloads page, but don't stop
there. Since recent versions of PP can use Painter nozzles, take a look at
our Tutorials pages as well. Virtually all of the foliage texture tutorials
come with free nozzles.

If you're familiar with how layers work, you might want to download the PDF
step by step tutorials too. Earlier versions of Painter used a different
implementation of layers, but newer versions don't (v.6&7) nor does PSP. So,
translating menu commands from a P6 or PSP tutorial to PP is easy if you
know what you're doing.

There are a variety of tree and foliage textures available as well, some
associated with Bryce mapping tutorials. Try some of those too.

Have fun,
Dennis@DigArts

I'll back Dennis up. If anyone digs the Image Sprayer, his
Image Lists are superior to anything else out there.

It's the best 'plugin' you're not using :-)

those jungle 3d images are very nice! I'd not visited his site in a while...
quite amazing (the branches for trees, foliage, etc)!

Thanks Cliff,

Have we got a surprise for you. Some recent breakthroughs take these tools
still farther. Some new additions for Jungle 3D users will demonstrate it
:) At some point, we hope to post some bare tree trunks for PP users since
PP doesn't have a tool to use Forestry.

As usual, we'll contact you when they're posted.

in my eyes so I will look. IMPORTANT..do they work with CD11? Thanks for

Dennis, I looked at your site but am puzzeled as tutorials appear to be for
painter etc. and none for PP. Are your image list simply like those I would
think of in PP11. You select one images with the image sprayer tools in PP
and then simply pray them on using PP tools?

I forgot that the Painter tutorial use nozzle libraries, which PP can't
open. Sorry about that. I'll be changing that today so PP users can use
them as lists. If you're interested, try the various Painter tutorial pages
again Monday and download the tutorial lists using the PP link.

Hi Ron,

They are, although we do have a tutorial for PP in the PP manual for Jungle
3D. What I was trying to say is you can refer to the Painter or PSP
tutorials to get an idea of how to use our products to paint trees. The
only real difference is the menu commands. In other words, when the Painter
tutorial say create a layer by doing such and such, well you would know to
create an object using PPs menu command. The rest of the tutorial is
learning how to paint with these kinds of tools.

I think all of the tree and foliage tutorials begin by using a sandwich
metaphor. That is, painting a tree and foliage with Jungle 3D is a lot like
making a sandwich. You use three or more layers. In the simplist form, you
have a bottom layer of background foliage (bread), a filler layer of trunks
and limbs (peanut butter and jelly) and a top layer of foreground foliage
(bread). You can see how easily these tutorials will translate once you
have to basic concept. The rest is familiarizing yourself with the PP
commands and refining your brush stroke to get a better result.

We produced the tutorials, in part, because the concept is a bit different
that traditional painting and that sometimes confuses people. The idea is
to repeat a tutorial 2-3 times until the concept is clear and the command
sequence familiar. Once you're familiar with the basics, you can focus on
painting the tree without getting distracted with the "where is that new
object command," or "is this where I load the shadow list?" questions.

I'm still using PP 8, so producing a tutorial with that interface would
probably confuse more people than it would help. Nevertheless, I can't
imagine you use the lists any differently between PP 8 and 11. As you say,
"You select one image-list [sic] with the image sprayer tool in PP and then

simply pray them on using PP tools?"

One last thing, I'd forgotten that the Painter tutorial use nozzle
libraries, which PP can't open. I'll change that later today so PP users
can use them too. Try the various Painter tutorial pages Monday and
download the tools using the PP link.

Dennis,

If you want someone to create a tutorial for online
consumption and with a more current version of PP, drop me a
note. I can hybridize your current Painter *.pdf if it
helps.
