David,

Since you just purchased Painter 7, the Painter 7 Update could already
have been included in the software.

Right click the Painter7.exe file, choose Properties, click the Version
tab and in the lower left panel, click Product version. In the lower
right panel, you should see 7.1.357.

Also open Painter and check to see if you have the Tinting brush
category. That was introduced with the Painter 7 Update.

Good luck, and if you still can't find out, call Corel at 1-800-772-6735
and ask Customer Service if your recent purchase included the Painter 7
Update in the software.

I did check properties of Painter7.exe and it is 7.0.0.0 as is the About
information. Also there is no Tinting Brush category.

I have other problems with Painter7. Clicking on Help Menu > Help Topics or
Tech Support, or Tutorials there is no action. I am aware of the Help
problem some are having with Java - this is not the case with me - nothing
happens when I click on Help topics. I have been ignoring these three
problems hoping the patch would fix the problem.

I have installed Painter7 on my notebook also running Win XP Pro and the
Painter7 operates exactly the same regarding the patch and Help.
Tomorrow I will install on a Win 98 System at my office and see what
happens.
If there are no more replys I will contact Corel. I just hate to start my 30
days of support for what seems to be a simple problem.

Thanks Dave

David,

First call Corel Painter Customer Service to find out if your recently
purchased Painter 7 should include the Painter 7 Update. Then you'll
have Corel's word one way or another and if you continue to have
problems, when you write to Tanya Staples, Corel Painter Product
Manager, you can include this in the list of steps you've already taken
to resolve the problem. I'll give you her e-mail address below.

It's a toll free call and they don't charge you anything to talk to
Customer Service.

Corel Corporation: 10-800-727-6735

I send these instructions to Painter groups and lists so often, I can't
recall if I gave them to you, so if they're redundant, maybe they'll
help someone else. You need to follow *all* of these steps when
uninstalling Painter 7 and installing the Painter 7 Update.

1. Move any files you created into a new folder outside the Painter 7
folders.

2. Uninstall Painter 7.

3. Manually delete any remaining Painter 7 folders and files.

4. Reboot.

5. Install Painter 7 and don't open it even one time.

6. Install the Painter 7 Update.

7. Reboot.

8. Check the Painter 7 version number again, using the instructions I
gave you in a previous message. On the Version tab, be sure to highlight
Product version in the lower left panel and look in the lower right
panel for 7.1.357.

9. If the version number is correct, launch Painter 7.1.357 and have a
great time.

10. If the version number is not correct, and you've followed all of
these steps exactly, in order, and completely, e-mail Corel Painter
Product Manager Tanya Staples including your complete system specs and
all steps you've taken, including any other information you think might
help:

tan...@corel.com

Good luck, :o)

David,

Typo Alert!

Sorry, that was Corel Corporation: 1-800-727-6735

(Not: Corel Corporation: 10-800-727-6735)
