I'm curious as to why I should consider adding Painter to my
illustration arsenal. Seems like most of the tools I'd need are already
in Photo-Paint...?

Well, do you have an "arsenal" or the software tools
you use to create your art? Because any true artist
can do something incredible in MS "paint"...

Artistic intuition, all natural.

As far as I am concerned the only thing you can produce in MS paint is crap.
And I do not think that I am the only one that thinks that.

Well... having an "arsenal" will not improve your own skills.
But artistic practices in such a simple program as Paint, will.
It's the exact thing people don't understand about software...
only personal skills will do it, Painter will not give you anything
in a personal way. But I bet having that "arsenal" will sure
make ya feel better, and more prideful too!

AArDvarK,

When you know Painter well, you'll be in a better position to make such
grand statements.

Painter does give many people something in a very personal way. I am one
of those people. It's given me tools I would not have otherwise. It's
given me freedom to explore, experiment, discover. It's inspired me to
try things I might not have tried otherwise. It's given me the
opportunity to learn, continually. Those are a few things Painter has
given me in a personal way. Unless you've experienced that yourself, you
really don't know.

Having a stick to draw pictures in the dirt is to good traditional
drawing and painting tools what MS Paint is to Painter. Limited in
capabilities and therefore limiting to the artist if that's all they
allow themselves to use.

Since you seem to have your mind made up firmly, there's not much point
in trying to convince you I guess.

Fortunately, most people reading this newsgroup have enough sense not to
listen to such nonsense.

There is nothing wrong with what I said. Perhaps as
a woman you would know how to use your conscience
far better than any man can, and realize that MS paint
is much more than brushes, oil paint and canvas on an
easle. You know that as much as I do. People who
need an "arsenal" have a problem with being naturally
artistic, in a genuine and personal sense, maybe you
have a bit more than that, I don't know, but what I say
is not nonsense. An "arsenal" of expensive software
cannot create what it takes to be that true artist, never
will. Perhaps you can just because of who and what
you are personally, which I believe, but I have never
seen your own work. Got a gallery online?

Ahhh, c'mon now, you two... stop arguing and do some painting instead. Maybe the original poster just wanted to ask an innocent
question for pure curiosity and this whole issue will soon turn to some sort of bloody war about preferences.

If you have a collection (aka arsenal) of tools and you are a great artist, then fine. If not, then that still shouldn't be a
problem. There are people who collect coins, and yet, they are poor. And there are some who do not, and yet they are rich. Others
collect cars, even though you can only drive only one at a time. So what?

If you only collecting software, and have the money, so what? Buy it.

If you hate MSPaint, fine. If you like it, that's fine, too. The point is, just enjoy what you have. Whether it's for collecting or
creating art.

Thank you. I think my initial choice of words in my earlier was seized
upon for some reason unclear to me as an annoyance by at least one of
the arguers.

That said, I do have some semi-professional interest as a comics
illustrator starting his first professional gigs, and I was wondering
how Photo-Paint and Painter each might be of use in which ways...

Not a bad looking program, really. Too bad it doesnt have tablet support. Or
at least, none that I can see from reading the feature list.

Tablet support *would* be nice to have, I have to admit...

The free version does have perfect tablet support,
I know because I use it. Great program, give the
freeby a download, as a suggestion.
