Finally getting around to trying Painter 8 on mac OS X.2.6. Using 8.1,
but no water color brush in palette - everything else seems to be there.
Checked brushes - seems to be missing the jpg for the water color brush
- any suggestions on how to get one without having to reinstall
everything? thanks

Bruce,

If your Water Color brush category icon is missing, it's likely that
other things got messed up too in the Painter 8.1 installation, or
somewhere else along the line. Below I'll explain how to run the Restore
option.

We can't directly access the Painter 8 default files on the CD as we
could with Painter 7, or install them separately from the main Painter
installation as we could with Painter 6.

Instead, try the following:

1. Close Painter 8 and other programs.

2. Move any files you created into a new backup folder outside of the
Painter 8 folders.

3. Insert Painter 8 CD 1.

4. When AutoRun window appears, click Install Corel(R) Painter(TM) 8.

5. After the installation preparation is completed, you'll see a new
window that says:

quote:
Program Maintenance
Repair or remove the program.

[•] Repair
Repair installation errors in the program. This option fixes
missing or corrupt files, shortcuts, and registry entries.

[ ] Remove
Remove Corel Painter 8 from your computer.

With the Repair radio button checked, click the Next button and follow
the prompts.

6. Reboot and see if Painter your Water Color brush category is there now.

If not, you'll probably need to Uninstall Painter 8, reinstall Painter
8, then install the Painter 8.1 patch. Follow all of these steps:

1. Move any files you created into a backup folder somewhere outside of
the Painter 8 folders.

2. Uninstall Painter 8.

3. Manually delete any remaining Painter 8 folders and files.

4. Reboot.

5. Install Painter 8 and don't open it even one time.

6. Install the Painter 8.1 patch.

7. Reboot.

8. Launch Painter 8.1

Good luck! :o)

thanks for the input - If I find anything else wrong I'll probably go
ahead and do that...
What I did end up doing is putting the Painter 8 CD1 in, but had it
install on my 2nd hard drive; took the icon from the 2nd hard drive -
installed on 1st hard drive - and it works :-); then deleted from the
2nd hard drive.
Taking a class starting this weekend as intro to Painter 8 and wanted to
have it running.

Quit Painter. Delete the "Water Color.jpg" file if it is there, and
duplicate any other jpg file (e.g. Digital Water Color.jpg) and rename
it "Water Color.jpg". Relaunch Painter. Voila!
