"Hi everyone,
Well, we finally got permission to talk about Painter 7. We are allowed
to
tell you about Painter 7, but don't ask questions about the beta process
because that is off limits.
Painter 7 has a few features that are going to totally knock your socks
off.
There is a new watercolour engine. It was quite enjoyable watchng the
watercolour brush topic on this mailing list knowing what was around the
corner.
The watercolour palette is to say the least AMAZING.
There are now 3 types of layers:
the regular layer,
watercolour layer,
Liquid brush layer (the other new type of brush)
The liquid brush and the water colour brushes are not just brush
varients.
They are 2 new types of brush engines (not sure if that is the correct
term)
Cher Threinen-Pendarvis designed the watercolour brushes. They are
incredible. There is a whole slew of watercolour varients and a separate
water colour brush settings panel. You guys are just going to squeal
with
delight when you use these new brushes. They have taken Painter to a
whole
new level. You can even do effects like sprinkle salt on your
watercolour.
You can have as many watercolour layers as you want, dry some, keep some
wet. You can lift the canvas layer onto a watercolour layer to apply
watercolour effects to your canvas for example, if you have a photo on
the
canvas. Just wait till you see how these new brushes do their magic on
your
canvas. It is truly awsome to watch the way the paint disperses on the
watercolour layer.
The liquid brush layer is a new type of brush of liquid types where the
paint interacts with the other liquid paint. I haven't played with it
too
much so perhaps someone else can fill you in.
Here is the description from the Help files, speaking of which they
rock.
The help files are set up as HTML files, they are set up by folder,
index,
search AND you can save your favorite pages. Yahoo!!
Anyhow "Liquid Ink Layer
When you apply one of the new Liquid Ink brushes to an image, a new
Liquid
Ink layer is automatically created in the Layers section of the Object
palette. It is characterized by an ink droplet icon and can be edited as
you
would edit any other layer.
Water Color layer
In Corel Painter 6, if you applied a water color brush stroke, they were
applied to the Canvas layer, and as such, were uneditable. In Corel
Painter
7, you can edit the Water Color layer as you would any other layer. You
can
edit the Water Color layer, including erasing and blurring, without
changing
anything in the image layer.
Now that you can paint directly into a Water Color layer, there is new
functionality in Corel Painter 7. You can lift the canvas to the Water
Color
layer, which transfers information from the canvas to the Water Color
layer.
This is useful if you want to apply Water Color effects to a photograph,
for
example. You can wet the entire Water Color layer, which activates the
diffusion process. You can stop the diffusion process by selecting the
Dry
the Water Color layer command.
Unless you have a Water Color layer already selected, a new Water Color
layer is automatically created when a Water Color brush is applied to an
image. The Water Color layer appears in the Layers section of the Object
palette. It is characterized by a blue water droplet icon.
New Liquid Ink Brushes
New in Corel Painter 7, Liquid Ink brushes combine ink with paint to
create
a thick liquid paint effect. Use Liquid Ink brushes to create liquid
paint
effects that simulate traditional ink-based media. Brush types include
airbrush, calligraphy, camel and resist. You can specify Liquid Ink
brush
settings in the Liquid Ink section of the Brush Controls palette. Refer
to
"Setting Liquid Ink Controls" for more information about setting
controls
for Liquid Ink brushes."
There is now a zoom control slider and you can also type in a number.
There
is advanced colour management,
Quote:
"Choose a color profile
Choose ICC options
Choose advanced import/export options
Choose advanced settings for printers
Enable the gamut alarm
Use Color Management styles
Add and delete styles "
The text tool have been totally revamped.
There is a one point adjustable perspective tool.
Here is a totally cool one. All of Painter's brushes are stored in XML
files. What does this mean on a practical level. A bunch of things.
Cross
platform compatability, isn't that cool? Total ease of swapping files as
well as drag and drop compatability between folders. Also you can study
the
XML files, and look at them side by side to compare the settings and
tweak
the brush right in the file. Here is what an XML file for the Digital
Wheel
Airbrush looks like.
----XML FILE SNIPPED BY JINNY. It's too long to post here. To read the
complete original message and see the XML file, it's available on the
Painter list at Topica.com in the thread named "Painter 7" posted
yesterday.----
So, how's that for a preview glimpse? I will let someone else takeover
from
here."

I like painter but it was never a straighforward interace like Corel's
PhotoPaint.
