Both are expensive and both do things the other does not. Sorry I can't be
more specific regarding their value. But there is a big difference between
'Deep Paint' and 'Deep Paint 3D'.
One of the nice things about having both Painter and Deep Paint is that DP
comes with a plug-in version of their program, so you can be in Painter and
migrate your work in DP, then back to Painter.
I know that Right Hemisphere was trying to sell DP as a replacement for
Painter when the latter was being dumped by MetaCreations. If you've had a
chance to work carefully with DP you have already seen there is little
comparison.

Full versions of Painter are vastly better than Painter Classic and in
my opinion, the best paint program that exists. Painter Classic was a
Metacreations product (the company that last owned Painter). It's an
appetizer to get people interested in Painter (now owned by Corel). The
current version is Painter 7 but you might be able to pick up Painter 6
at a good price and it's a great program.
