Is there a way in painter 7 to make a photo I scan look like watercolor?
Thanks

Fernando,

Yes. Lots of ways.

If you own Painter 7, you'll find tutorials installed with Painter for
doing both Clone painting and using Water Colors. Also, if you click
Help > Tutorials, a browser window will open with links to the tutorials
on your hard drive and also links to tutorials on the Procreate site.
There are several for using Water Colors.

Using Clone painting, you work on a copy of your photo from which the
photo image has been cleared and when you click the Tracing Paper icon,
you can see a 50% opacity view of the original photo. Using Water Color
variants with Clone Colors checked in the Art Materials palette's Color
section, you can paint on the Clone and Painter takes color information
from the original photo. Or, you can paint with out using Clone Colors
only using the 50% opacity view of your original photo as a guide.

Another easy and quick way to turn a photo into a Water Color is to open
the Photo in Painter, and in the Objects palette's Layer section menu,
choose Lift Canvas to Water Color. Choose any Water Color variant and
Paper combination, then in the Layers section menu, choose Wet Entire
Water Color Layer.

It will take a few minutes for the process to be completed, and
depending on the Water Color variant and Paper combination you chose,
the result will vary from a soft watercolor effect to a more pronounced
effect.

The best thing, if you're going to try this technique, would be to work
on a test photo and do several versions to find the combination you like
best.

Then, if you want to, you can add a new Water Color Layer and continue
painting to add details or just to continue enhancing the photo.

On my site, PixelAlley.com, you'll find lots of Painter 7 information
and you can download Painter Developer John Derry's Visual Guide for
Painter 7 Water Colors to learn about how these brushes work, and how
they interact with Paper textures. The URL is below my signature.

Be sure to read the User Guide and tutorials before starting.. along
with John Derry's Visual Guide for Painter 7 Water Colors. That will
help get you started on the right track and make the whole process more
fun.

Have fun painting!
