Howdy! I haven't been around in awhile, but has anyone/the person who was
talking about converting the Prismacolor brushes from painter 6 to 7 done so
yet? Just wondering. :0)

That is a good idea, if it can work. It would go a long way to enhance the
value of Painter 7 for artists.

Can't you just import the version 6 brush into Painter 7?

Corvus,

I don't know how far anyone's gotten trying to convert them.

Painter 7 won't import Painter 6 and earlier Custom Palettes so the two
supplied by Shane would have to be recreated.

Also, since a lot of the brushes use the Wet Method, and Painter 7 Water
Color technology is all new and different, those brushes don't work the
same as in Painter 6.

All of the Categories named "Prisma 10% through 90%...", the
Prisma_Blender, Prisma Blender Fine, and Highlighter, use the Wet
Method.

The other Categories seem to work alright.

Jack,

Yep, you can import them but most of these brushes won't work in Painter
7.. see my last message for details.

Hmm... I wish I could remember who sent me an email saying he would have
them converted to Painter 7 format by the new year... *Searches through

Corvus and anyone interested in recreating the Wet Method brushes in the
Prismacolor Library for Painter 7....

Why not load the brushes and create new ones for those that use the Wet
Method. You'll never be able to use them as they are in Painter 7. Maybe
try building from the new Tinting brushes.

The other brushes work fine and you can create your own Custom Palette
using screenshots of the Prismacolor palettes to create the Category
icons.

I've included, below, the settings for the Prisma and Prisma Fine
brushes. There are still some other Wet Method brushes that need to be
figured out.. but this might get us going.. hopefully.

For starters, to get the Prisma 10%, set up this brush:

R: 224
G: 228
B: 230

Note that the HSV Percentages are now:
H: 89%

BRUSHES PALETTE
Variant menu > Save Variant and check the Save Current Colors box.

To create the other Prisma brushes in this set adjust the RGB numbers as
follows and Save Variant checking the Save Current Colors box each time:

Prisma 20% - R: 207 G: 210 B: 213

Prisma 30% - R: 194 G: 197 B: 200

Prisma 40% - R: 169 G: 174 B: 179

Prisma 50% - R: 132 G: 138 B: 144

Prisma 60% - R: 115 G: 122 B: 129

Prisma 70% - R: 98 G: 104 B: 110

Prisma 80% - R: 63 G: 66 B: 69

Prisma 90% - R: 63 G: 66 B: 69 (Yes, I checked this several times.. it's
the same as 80% but you could change it to the same color Shane used for
the Prisma 90% Fine, R: 38 G: 40 B: 42. All of his other Prisma and
Prisma Fine brushes use the same colors for each percentage.)

To make the Prisma Fine set, just change the brush Size to 4 and save
each of the Prisma brushes one at a time, changing the Variant name to
Prisma 10% Fine, Prisma 20% Fine, etc.

After you've set all those up, let me know if you think they work like
the ones for Painter 6 and if not, what's missing.. what doesn't work
right. Since I don't use these brushes, there may be some aspect that I
missed in trying to duplicate them. I didn't spend any time on the other
brushes in Shane's Palette so maybe someone else can pick up where I
left off and help to complete the set. If I find some free time (don't
count on it), maybe I'll fiddle with them some more. If so, I'll share
the results.

(This took about an hour and a half, by the way.)

Unfortunately no. :0( The watercolor brushes in Painter 7 are COMPLETELY
different then the watercolor brushes from 6, otherwise that would be an
ideal solution!

You can import the Prismacolor Brush Library and some of the brushes
will work. Only the ones that use the Wet Method are affected by the new
Water Color brush technology and won't work as expected. Check the
message I posted recently with some brush settings for the Prisma 10%,
20%.. etc. and Prisma 10% Fine, Prisma 20% Fine.. etc. Categories.. as a
starter for converting the whole set. You could do a screen print of the
Custom Palettes in Painter 6, bring it into Painter 7 and recreate the
Category icons, as Custom Palettes from Painter 6 and earlier won't open
in Painter 7.

If you really want these brushes, they're possible to set up. Anyone
can do it if they have a bare minimum of knowledge about brush settings
and use the ones I sent to the newsgroup on Friday.
