Problem is Corel will appear to hang, when u open a CDR file from Network,
but if you give it long enough the files will open.
I have tried to open the same CDR file from C drive, it is very fast. Also
when opening the same files with Photo Editor or Adobe Photoshop - the file
open in less than a second.
Do you have any idea? Your suggestions are much appreciated and any feedback
as to your experience with the Corel would be helpful.
Regards
Yvonne

I'd put this down to the speed of your network. If you have used
Corels compression when saving the files they could in fact be much
larger than you may initially appreciate. They always open much faster
when local.
Also, are you opening them with the application already open rather
than clicking on the file?
Just wondering also if file associations might be wrong and you are
opening files wrongly somehow, becuase........

Don't wish to split hairs, but they can not be the same files.
PhotoEditor and PhotoShop don't open CDR's ;-)

We still having problem when opening file in corel which the file is stored
in our network file server.
Is there anyone out there has similar problem or is just the speed of our
network?
I have checked the file association is right and the corel file isn't
compress when it is saved..
Any idea???

I'd say speed of the network is the biggest factor here. One S.B. I
use sometimes have problems over the network opening from Compact Disc
/ server. Get errors regarding bitmaps within the file and the usual
'ignore, retry, cancel' warning.
Copy local and open no problems.
Does not happen often. Part of the key could be for you is whether the
same thing happens with previous versions of Draw.
What type of network/speed is it?
I too, thought of the compression factor and have stoped using corels
compression, that did not seem to make much of a difference in speeds, so
with corel files we copy them localy and resave them back to the server on
completion.
We do this ONLY with corel files (or maybe the occasional freehand file if
it has some really heafty links.
I did post about this same problem a while ago and didnt really get too much
feedback.

I haven't try to open the file over the previous versions of Corel. Will
there be any difference?

I doubt version 10 will get any more fixes for anything - just a
personal observation.

Only suggested in case there is some Corel 10 specific thing, but
judging by the lack of posts complaining about this guess it is
something people live with or a problem more specific to you. Wonder
if V10's memory management could be a factor.
I'm not using V10 over a network, sometimes open V9 files and they are
only slower by what I'd consider reasonable. Slow network here and it
takes a several minutes to transfer six hundred megs just by copying
over.
I bet this will speed things up as well as restore your sanity!
