What's the difference between CV & CVC & what does each symbolize?

Hi Cosimo,

Both repersent the Pantone Coated colour model. The only difference is
that CV is an older version of the model, whereas the CVC is a newer one
that includes more colours including the new neons and metallic colours
of the 800 series.

Good Vibes!!

The older style of specifying colours was CV (a general ink type), now it
has been split off into specific ink types (CVC refers to 'Coated' and CVU
refers to 'Uncoated' inks, just to name the two most common), the point of
actualy doing this is unclear other than thats how the competitors (FH, ILL)
name their ink seperations. This can lead to confusion and extra film
seperations if not checked on older files.

Pantone has downloadable colour model updates/ICCprofiles that add in any
extra colour models as they appear (like the pastels etc.) and programmes
have the latest, at the time of completion included (thats why 11 has the
extra swatches over 10 and so on).

Allthough I have not tried to update any of my Draw colour libraries, I know
it can be done in FH etc.

The difference between Coated and Uncoated is in the formulation of the
ink to be used in either coated or uncoated stock. Coated stock
generally uses a thin layer of ceramic coating that gives it an
extra-smooth surface. This coating produces a colour shifting. To
compensate for this Pantone deviced the two separate colour models, PMS
Uncoated (CVU) for uncoated stock, and PMS Coated (CVC) for the coated
kind of paper.

Good vibes!!
