Forget to mention this also:

After this message, in the file menu I cannot close, save, save as or
repair anymore. Closing the file at this moment gives the message:
Cannot close document when in use. Before closing cancel or wait ....
(translated).

So I have to terminate the program with the taskmanager.

Hi,

When I try to save a file of about 25 Mb, I get the warning that the
Doc file is damaged. Also nothing is saved and my original is lost
(needless to say I'm very angry now).

What does this message mean? and what to do about it?

Any suggestions please (I'm running under Windows NT 4 SP 5) besides
spending money again.

Wim.

I can't say I've heard of this before - could you state what the exact
warning message is

Rob,

It's just a simple message box saying the DOC file is damaged. No
other clues here!
After this I cannot do anything else anymore. This only occurs on
WindowsNT 4.0 SP5. On a Windows2000 system this message doesn't occure
(but there are other problems). The document concerned is about 30 MB.

Wim

First convert the docx into some other format, and then reconvert it. Secondly, copy all the data except the last paragraph marked to a new Word document and finally copy the portions that are undamaged to a new document.

However, if the issue is still not resolved, you can use a professional tool to repair the damaged and corrupt Word file. For more detail http://exchangeserver.tumblr.com/post/4022777643/instantly-repair-word-files
