I've looked around and apparently this is a known issue. I'm hoping
someone can provide me with some more insight.

I developed a very simple animation. A blue circle slides in from left
to center of the "stage" and then it fades away. It was nice and easy to
do in RAVE. The *.swf file size was 2635 bytes.

I developed the same animation in SWiSH, another Flash animation
generator. My first impression is that I like RAVE better. However, the
*.swf file size was just 1006 bytes - less than half the size of the
RAVE file. In my browser the two animations appear to be identical.

I'm worried that more sophisticated RAVE animations will be huge.
- Am I doing something wrong?
- Is there a setting I can adjust?

TIA

You are doing nothing wrong, RAVE - SWF seems bigger.

Well, Michael, I guess this is nothing new to you, but as a RAVE newbie
I want to give some feedback.

You posted a message a while ago saying basically that RAVE does not
compete directly with Macromedia's Flash product. That's fine with me.
Animations on websites that I design tend to be simple, and SWiSH 2.0
has served me well for the last couple of years. I used Corel for years,
though, so I decided to check out RAVE.

The interface is very nice, and there are more features than SWiSH. The
fantastic Corel drawing tools are a real plus! However, the size of
Flash files is always an issue, especially with dial-up Internet users,
so the fact that RAVE generates SWF files that are 2-3 times the size of
those from SWiSH is a deal breaker.

Thanks for your help on this and other Corel newsgroups, and thanks for
hearing me out!

Yeap. From the design side, RAVE is stronger than any other including Flash
itself, but the file side, and programming limitation are among features
that keep it out of the SWF competitive scenario.

You are welcome.

I haven't spent tons of time flipping RAVE over like other Corel apps... but
I agree... RAVE is a beautiful app in terms of design... but the difference
in output file-size and inability to incorporate ActionScript is lamentable.
I cannot promise... but it seems that the filesize difference is that RAVE
makes a keyframe along every frame of a tween when exporting to SWF. At
least that's how it seems when editing a RAVE-generated file in Flash.

So that's why files get big... Wonder if this could be corrected. Keyframes
are intended as starting and finishing points for tweens, not to make up the
tweens themselves. Once Corel solves this problem (with the huge file
sizes), RAVE will be a fantastic tool due to the great interface and
superior drawing tools.
