display problems in coreldraw 12

Have just migrated to a new laptop and am having some display issues -
pasting in images from other apps, the object is there but there is no
colour to be seen - the only way to confirm its existence are the
handles or wire frame view etc.

Also I was just working on a file where I had pasted in an object
created in another Draw12 file - it was fine for 5 mins but then all
objects lost all colour. Also lost the ability to see changes to fill
colour etc. Shut down Corel, reopened file, everything back to normal.
I am using the latest updated version of CorelDraw 12 on an Asus
Pentium T2500 laptop with 2GB of ram and a ati mobility radeon x1600
256mb.
This is a major drama, any help appreciated - Draw is my main program
and I'll be working away merrily then for all intents and purposes the
art disappears!!!
