Lost fill patterns when opening PDF's

We have been creating graphics in CorelDraw 12 with color fills and
textures, then publishing them as "PDF for editing" or "PDF for
document distribution." The fill patterns show up fine when the files
are opened in Adobe Reader or Illustrator, but when we reopen the
files in Corel they are gone. The filled areas are marked as having no
fill.

Can anyone offer help as to why these patterns disappear when we
reopen with Corel? Thanks very much.
