What a load of crap. First of all, the real inventor of Bryce is Ken
Musgrave, PhD, the person that came up with the algorithms that made Bryce
(and every other 3D landscape program) possible. If Eric Wenger is the
"father" of Bryce, then we certainly cannot leave Kai Krause out of the
discussion, since he is the mother of Bryce (co developer of the interface
with Eric Wenger) and Dr. Musgrave is all four grandparents.
Ken Musgrave came up with the code. Eric Wenger and Kai Krause came up the
interface. NONE of it would have been possible without Ken Musgrave, who
published the original code in his doctoral dissertation
(http://www.kenmusgrave.com/dissertation.html).
Ken Musgrave went on to do great things, including co creating the planet
Jupiter in "2010: The Year We Make Contact", Mojoworld (www.pandromeda.com),
the Bryce Deep Texture Editor, and the KPT Noize Filter. Kai Krause went on
to do great things (I'd love to post a link, but unfortunately, what was
once his work is now abandonware (KPT 1, 2, 3, Convolver, and others...) or
owned by an assortment of companies (including Corel
http://www.corel.com/kpt). Eric Wenger went on to create some cool Mac only
stuff, most recently Artmatic Voyager. Just as Bryce was based on Ken
Musgrave's dissertation, Voyager is based on Ken Musgrave's book "Texturing
and Modeling, A Procedural Approach"
(http://www.csee.umbc.edu/~ebert/book2e.html). In addition, if you look at
the interfaces of Mojoworld and Voyager, it's quite clear that Eric Wenger
not only borrowed published code (legal), but stole Mojoworld's interface
(not legal).
Oh and by the way, Eric Wenger's issues with Corel over Bryce are ancient
history, Corel paid him off long ago. No, I cant post a link to that, for
obvious reasons. But what worries me most about Eric Wenger buying Bryce
from Corel is that we may never see another Windows version of Bryce ("I
didn't protest when they rewrote everything for windows..."). WTF does THAT
mean? Is there something obscene about writing for Windows?
Eric Wenger's hatred for Windows and its users goes beyond that single
comment. Every piece of software he has every published on his own
(www.UISoftware.com) has been Mac only. EVERY SINGLE ONE WITHOUT EXCEPTION.
Eric Wenger claims that he enjoys writing for the Mac OS. Okay, that's
buyable. When asked why he won't sell his source code to one of the many
Windows companies that have shown interest, he has replied that "Windows
programmers can't understand my code". Sorry, I'm not buying that one,
particularly since Windows programmers somehow managed to understand and not
only release but also upgrade Bryce. The sad truth here is that what Eric
Wenger enjoys, more than anything (even money), is being a Mac elitist. OS
Wars are bad, mmmmmmmmmmmk.... (and childish and lame and unbecoming an
otherwise smart programmer).
"How", you may ask, "does Eric Wenger manage to survive as a Mac only
programmer in a Windows world"? Simple: By obscene overpricing of his
software (http://www.uisoftware.com/ORDERS/store_main/storefront.php). Want
an example? The PRESETS library for one of his programs (not the program
itself) sells for $59.00.
So anyway, that's my <rant>. I would hate to see Bryce fall into the hands
of someone known for refusing to write for Windows. The only way Eric Wenger
should be allowed to purchase Bryce is if he does so with an agreement to
release Windows versions on the same day as, and with the same feature sets
as, OSX versions.

Whoever you are, you are looking at an old article, that has been re-hashed
here time and time again. Furthermore, the people who post here are in the
KNOW on Bryce history and have watched this closely since MetaC imploded.
So please, take some Prozac and get some rest, ok?
