Hello all,

I did not want to leave it until the last moment as there may be technical problems with the submission system minutes prior to the deadline. This is to confirm that I have submitted the IGF workshop proposal with all of the input text listed on:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TpzbM5qJ5SE-lOFZgMSdmOosW03AbsrbSRTI0_QnapY/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks for all of your input.

Kindest regards,

Olivier MJ Crépin-Leblond
DC CIV Chair

Olivier,

thanks a lot and kudos for the excellent result. Let's hope (and strive for) this gets accepted without yet another round of intricate negotiations. Since the proposal is already in, let's get to work on a document and other actions that represent it, including an intersessional meeting. Maybe in this meeting we could flesh out a bit the "Lessons Learned" aspect of our work, and explore the gaps between some of the models of multstakeholder governance we already have in place, and the needs for AI governance. I would include one among many aspects: we always had access to the Internet as a key issue, admitting as well that it is not only an Internet issue but also a telecommunications, markets, business models, regulation, investment, and public policy issue. Much the same will apply if we look at AI for the Global South, especially access and our won contribution to the development of AI, infrastructures, capacity building, etc.

What we have learned and continue to learn about institutional design, financing, accountability, etc. will also have a bearing on the ways to move forward with AI, while at the same time taking due account of the differences between the two fields.

And of course the Core Values Observatory should be a project that we have at least in functioning prototype by the IGF session in June.

who joins?

Dear Colleagues,

this is to let you know that I am delighted to announce our joint DC-CIV and DC-NN, with the participation of French Regulator ARCEP, has been accepted by the IGF MAG.

I am in touch with all proposed speakers and we'll work together to make this another excellent session, no doubt!

Thanks again to everyone who have provided input to put the workshop proposal together, and in particular to Pari Esfandiari, whose help was really appreciated.

Kindest regards,

Olivier MJ Crépin-Leblond

Olivier,

OFFLIST - first of all, congratulations! getting a workshop accepted seemed particularly uphill this year, so double or triple congratulations!

I notice I am not listed in the proposal so may have far less grounds to travel (it's already not looking great since there is no funding for travel this year at the university due to severe budget cuts, so all would go out of pocket; other years it has too but some other expenses have been covered and it's less bad altogether.)

At any rate, two things:

1. do you know Oslo well enough to recommend a part of town where to stay that has good connectivity to the venue AND is surrounded by some sights? I would be traveling with Enzia and a week in Oslo seems liable to become very boring, judging from a trip I made there a few years ago (what was it, an ICANN meeting?)

2. bigger thing: we should make sure to have an intersessional activity for the DC independent of any other groupings, or at least led by us and then having others as guests. I stopped working on our report card / control panel idea when you said to wait for you and Pari but maybe we should kick off and have her join. It's end of April, we have like 8 weeks to the meeting in Oslo, barely enough to organize an online panel by zoom with 3 speakers and a few attendees by, say, end of May. What do you think? (we have plenty subject matter to work with, including yesterday's "end of multistakeholderism?" piece by Geoff Huston, and the approach to lessons learned from IG/Core Values that can, and cannot, be transferred to AI governance.

Hope all else is good.

All,

apologies for burdening you with an erroneously sent email which was intended to be private. My mistake due to forgetting that we don't have a mailing list but instead have a group email address.

Hope it incites others to start the intersessional work and to share local knowledge about Oslo and the conference venue for the IGF. Cheers all!
