Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that I have received confirmation that our workshop proposal was accepted.

The accepted workshop proposal is now posted on:
https://intgovforum.org/en/content/igf-2026-ws-173-joint-dc-civ-and-d-aig-bridging-internet-and-ai-governance

We'll follow-up shortly on acting on the evaluator feedback.

Given the very large number of workshop applications received, we can be happy to have a slot again this year - Let's make this year's session as successful and exciting as last year.

Dear Olivier Crepin-Leblond,

Thank you for submitting a workshop proposal for the Internet Governance Forum 2026.

I am pleased to inform you that your proposal, #173 “Joint DC-CIV and D-AIG - Bridging Internet and AI Governance”,  has been selected for the IGF 2026 programme in Nairobi, Kenya (14-18 December 2026). Congratulations.

Your session has been placed under the umbrella theme, “Governance, Cooperation & Institutions”. Please note that themes are broad and indicative, and take into account the significant overlap among them.

The full list of selected workshops is now published on the IGF website at https://intgovforum.org/en/content/igf-2026-selected-workshops. The list is public, so you are welcome to share this news.

Evaluator feedback

Your proposal was reviewed by several evaluators from the IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG). Their comments are set out below, unattributed. Some are observations, others are suggestions; where they point to gaps — most often in speaker diversity, the clarity of policy questions, or the session plan — we would encourage you to act on them as you develop the session.

• The topic is relevant to the IGF 2026 theme. But analogies between the Internet and AI can be misleading because models, compute and training data have different architectures and concentration dynamics; the session needs explicit limits to the analogy.

• Joint DC-CIV and D-AI begins by highlighting who is organizing the session. That may make it seem more like a joint activity of the Dynamic Coalitions than a proposal built around a public policy question.

• Good proposal addressing a relevant topic. The session is well structured, with clear policy questions and expected outcomes, and demonstrates strong stakeholder diversity. The proposal could be strengthened by further developing the hybrid engagement strategy and making the discussion format more interactive.

• This proposal offers a valuable and intellectually rigorous contribution to ongoing discussions on AI governance by drawing explicit lessons from more than two decades of Internet governance practice. Its central premise, that AI governance can benefit from the accumulated experience of developing and protecting Core Internet Values such as openness, interoperability, and human rights, is both timely and highly relevant to the IGF 2026 theme. The proposal provides a thoughtful framework for comparing governance challenges across technological domains and encourages participants to move beyond abstract principles toward practical policy learning and adaptation.

• The proposal is strong overall. Maintain the current strengths while providing as much concrete implementation detail as possible and ensuring the final session delivers the stated outputs.

What happens next

Further information will follow shortly, including instructions on how to make changes to your proposal, and once the overall IGF 2026 agenda is set, practical details on scheduling and preparation. Changes to speakers, policy questions, format and other details will be possible through the IGF website — intgovforum.org.

If you have questions in the meantime, please write to i...@un.org.

With congratulations and thanks,

IGF Secretariat

Well done Olivier!  INTA’s Africa Representative, Hazel Okoth, will be attending.  I will be remote.   I will make sure that Hazel is well briefed.  Also, if folks on this list notice her, please reach out and say hello.  This is either her first or second IGF meeting and she is learning the ropes.

With kind regards,
