Hey team,

A couple quickies:

I'm excited to see a few of you tonight at the Happy Hour!

We have about 45 people who RSVPed on FB, so we should have a respectable showing.  I posted the event on the walls of most of the orgs the MSP "likes" on FB and did some text message outreach as well.  For the summer, we are competing with the weekly free dance party at BK Museum and a free Blackalicious concert for Celebrate Brooklyn.

Sharon and Michelle, I went ahead and added you to the MSP-Core email list, so we don't have to CC you in messages.  We fam now :)

Attached is a sign-in sheet I drafted for tonight.  It's intended to build our list and also to ID orgs that might want to co-host future happy hours and/or venues/bars where we could hold them.  Let me know if you have any other suggested edits.

Anything else for tonight!?

One more thing!

This event next Tuesday looks rad.  Kazembe now works at the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (RLS) where my housemate Heidi also works.  They have some money, so it might be a good group to build with, especially if they are into the idea of radical/organizing spaces.

Here's the FB event and the description below.  I have a Mayoral Candidates forum then, but if someone else was able to make it, would be a good place to promote our work and build relationships.

Hit me up if you can go.

Activist groups and community organizations account for a great deal of the energy that drives the United States Left, but can the sum of their parts add up to a movement capable of bringing about fundamental social change? Alternative educational centers provide spaces in which groups like these can come together to envision a different kind of society. These centers can draw in and strengthen the many smaller progressive projects taking place around us. Join us for a discussion with the Brecht Forum and the Maysles Documentary Center to find out how they are working for social change through education.

The Brecht Forum is a cultural and educational center for people working for social justice, equality, and a new culture that puts human needs first. Through its programs and events, the Brecht Forum brings people together across social and cultural boundaries and artistic and academic disciplines to promote critical analysis, creative thinking, collaborative projects and networking in an independent community-level environment.

The Maysles Documentary Center is a Harlem-based non-profit dedicated to the exhibition and production of documentary films that inspire dialogue and action. Their Educational Institute offers diverse, year-round documentary educational programming for people of all ages throughout the Harlem, Northern Manhattan and South Bronx communities.
