hey team,
FOR TOMORROW:
we have over 90 rsvps for tomorrow... and that doesn't count all the folks that vocal is turning out (they didn't link to the fb event in their blast, i don't think). so it should be PACKED.
i have to host a candidates forum down the block starting at 6:30, so i hope to be at frank's at 6 to drop off materials and then come back around 7pm. anyone else planning to be there on the early side to welcome folks?
i can print some of the basic msp materials at work and bring a sign-in sheet. should we bring anything else? any other coordination plans to discuss for tomorrow?
MEETING with MICHELLE + SHARON
sharon, michelle and i met on monday night to get caught up on all things MSP and to talk at more length about vision+values for the happy hour.
after going over the status of the various possible partner groups (brecht, bushwick, commons, etc.) we talked about the happy hour and about involvement in the msp.
HAPPY HOURS MOVING FORWARD
there's interest in re-building the list of die-hard host committee members for the happy hour and ensuring that it reaches into various pockets of the social justice word (labor, env, community, etc.). we did not outline what that onboarding process would look like beyond starting with a brainstorm list of people and assessing them together.
the host committee (which would include the whole MSP core, presumably?) would then decide what orgs/groups want to partner with next (i've put out feelers with social justice leadership, fierce, caaav, and right to the city on my end).
there was also talk about IDing people who can serve as extra (formal or informal) host committee members for specific happy hours rooted in a particular neighborhood community. for example, if we were to do a happy hour in washington heights at some point, we the "permanent" house committee could work to bring on a set of people people with pull in that community and add their names as hosts for that month's happy hour.
michelle and sharon were super keen on keeping the happy hours vey informal (ie: things like name tags are too much like "work"). we also observed that people meet new folks organically at these events, but it might also be nice to have us "hosts" make a point of introducing ourselves to people who look new, lost, shy, etc.
we didn't have consensus about opening up the question of the name of the happy hour (whether it should stay Activista or if we should brainstorm something else). but we have greater clarity about the different dimensions of "ownership" and "branding" connected to the happy hours.
MSP LEADERSHIP
michelle was clear that she would like to bottom-line the happy hours and would not have capacity to join the core group (my question: michelle, do you want to stay on this list so you know what's being discussed in the "inner circle"?).
sharon is down to dig back in put it would be much more sustainable at something like a meeting every two weeks. she prefers mondays to wednesdays. (i am personally available most mondays, and can also do sundays). what schedule should we stick to?
how does that all sound? did i miss anything?
