Hey folks,
Apologies for sending this out so late. There's been so many moving pieces at FUREE that have been up in the air (I'll get back to that in a sec).
Lara and I met last Friday evening with Cheyenna Layne Weber and her co-conspirator working to turn the ground floor of the BK Commons into a worker-run cooperative bar/event space... basically the kind of thing we've been discussing within the MSP.
Their plans are still in the sketch phase, although they've clearly put some muscle behind it. Lara and I still had some questions about their project and how the MSP might relate to it, so we've all proposed meeting up again this Thursday evening to explore next steps.
We said we would have an MSP meeting at 7pm and then have Cheyanna and her collaborator over at 8:30 for an hour-long discussion. CAN YOU MAKE IT? If no one else is free, we might want to propose re-scheduling.
Oh... and while we're on the subject of the BK Commons, you are some of the first to learn that FUREE is moving into that building too! We'll be sharing the second floor with Right to the City, Brecht Forum (90% confirmed), the Institute for the Radical Imagination, Brooklyn Young Mothers and CHANGER. It's a pretty rad set-up, even though it requires a massive down-sizing from our previous offices.
Maybe Right to the City could co-host the October happy hour and have it on the gorgeous roof space at the Commons, if it's nice enough out?
xx
