Greetings from the Movement Space Project!

We're teaming up with VOCAL-NY for our July movement happy hour!  This grassroots group builds power among people affected by HIV/AIDS, drug use and mass incarceration to create healthy and just communities.  Join us on the 18th for a summertime victory party at Frank's Lounge celebrating VOCAL's hard work against biased policing.

WHERE: Frank's Cocktail Lounge, 660 Fulton St., Fort Greene
WHEN: Thursday, July 18th, 6 p.m. till late

RSVP and invite your friends via the Facebook event page.

Frank's is an old school Fort Greene classic, with two floors and plenty of room to dance upstairs. On the 18th there will also be the amazing Bronx-based DJ Dooga and former South Paw co-owner DJ Mikey Palms. Bklyn Burro will also be in house with SF Mission-style burritos if you get hungry.  This is not a fundraiser - just some good times and an opportunity to celebrate recent successes VOCAL has been a part of.

The 18th serves as the July edition of our monthly Activista happy hour, as part of our ongoing effort to build community, support rad groups, and ultimately work to open our own new organizing and social hub in NYC.  If your organization might want to partner with us for future happy hours, be sure to hit us up.

Check out our website for more info!

Love and solidarity,

The Movement Space Project

I didn't see anywhere where it says you're still co hosting with the Activista happy hour. But I also don't want to add any more text. Maybe we can just modify the intro a little bit?

good observation michelle.

i think this gets to the heart of issues we should discuss at an in-person meeting! :)

from talking to you, eli, betta and nathalie, i got the impression that the reigns were largely being past our way since most of the original Activista crew had mostly faded into the background (or in eli's case, moving out of town).  also that is was serendipitous that the happy hour fit into the MSP master plan... and that it was even better that you were in the mix, michelle, as a bridge between the two.

of course, i may have totally jumped the gun on these impressions, so it's cool to dial it back.  i def want to make sure we all feel good about the model we're working with.  once there's clarity on that front, it would be rad to discuss how to best ensure the happy hour maximizes momentum, support and visibility for the MSP.  things like whether the MSP facebook account should create the future happy hour event pages could fit into that discussion.  if we are going to be listed as co-hosts with Activista, we can also discuss what/who Activista is and what that shared promo/coordination roles looks like.  i personally think there's much to be gained by collapsing things under the MSP umbrella (simplicity, avoids confusion, streamlined communication, supports a long-term organizing project), but i also love and respect the folks involved in the Activista crew, so wanna make sure we on the same page.

i'll modify the text a little as sharon suggested.

and let's try and find a time when most of us are free to meet in person (with yummy snacks!).

it looks like wednesday isn't gonna work for several of us this week.  proposed alternate times are: this friday eve, sunday dinner time (my treat).

what works for folks?!

xx
L

I'm on the maybe side for Sunday. Got a few others things going on. And can't do Friday. But you all should meet without me on Sunday if that works for most.

looks like sunday is the best time for folks!  let's meet at mine from 4-6:30pm.

70 south elliott place in fort greene.

i'll have snacks, but feel free to bring others. there's beer left over at the house too ;)

below is the draft agenda lara sent out that we can adapt as needed.  michelle can give us some background on the activista happy hour and we can figure out our respective roles in making that a success together too.

ps: we have 57 people who've already RSVPed on facebook for the 18th and we still over a week away.  this is gonna be epic! :)

xx
