Dear All,

Greetings!

We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming Community of Practice session. Following recent discussions, these sessions will focus on landscape stewards, with an emphasis on strengthening knowledge and practice in natural resource management.

In this month’s session, our partners will share their approaches to watershed management and restoration initiatives. We warmly encourage field functionaries and practitioners from across organizations to join us for what promises to be an engaging and enriching learning experience.

Whether you are a returning partner or joining us for the first time, this session offers a valuable opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, explore collaboration, and contribute to the co-development of the CoRE Stack.

Session Details:

Date: 24th April, 2026 at 11 AM IST

Join Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88338864531?pwd=sZXP5GovVxSCmyL3c0GQfTsbUQ9RTb.1

Meeting ID: 883 3886 4531

Passcode: 859807

Agenda:

  • Ashish from Kalamandir will present their watershed management efforts in Jharkhand, including their approach to training field functionaries
  • Ishita from GreenHub will share her experiences in training communities in Assam on restoration initiatives

These sessions are designed to foster shared learning, strengthen practical skills, and build collective momentum towards resilient and sustainable natural resource management systems.

We look forward to your participation and to continuing this journey of learning and collaboration together.

Hi Ishita (Greenhub),

Thank you for your valuable presentation. I have some basic questions.

Which specific technologies, if any, are you using for this work? What are some of the gaps that you feel might be helped or enhanced using technology, such satellite imageries, geospatial data, soil health data etc.

How do you find the relations between different species, do you collect it from community, is it scientifically validated post collection? how do you keep track of growth of plants? What is the period after which you mark a restoration as complete.

If you could share your presentation slides, it would be helpful as well.

Hi Amit,

Thank you!

We do not use many technologies for day-to-day work. Only when we have to do surveys, instruments like a GPS, a rangefinder, compass, canopy densiometer can be helpful. Otherwise processes in the nursery and at the restoration site are mostly done manually.

Definitely the use of spatial tech, drones etc can help us - for example to collect vegetation data in spaces that are inaccessible to us.

Not sure what you mean by relations between different species, but all of the data is collected using scientific methodologies and theres always a field guide or community members that work with us, so the information gets validated both ways.

So for restoration projects, constant monitoring allows us to track the survival and growth of the saplings.

Finally, generally speaking a successful restoration site is one where we can exit and the ecosystem is resilient and can recover from disturbances. Actually restoration projects are long term projects and many milestones let us know if the project is successful or not.

Best wishes,
Ishita
