Last year students in our group had built out a methodology for downscaling evapotranspiration from a 500m product from MODIS to 30m (
paper) using Landsat. MTech student Shuvam has taken this further with improved training and per-AEZ models are now available to produce a monthly ET time-series at 30m for a tehsil.
When intersected with farm boundaries which we now have available to be generated on-demand at a village level (
see these sample outputs), this can help build farm-level indicators of water stress experienced by farms. With monthly outputs, this isn't entirely suitable for early warning or precision agriculture like use-cases, but it can help identify which areas have been historically more water stressed than others, which villages have more water stressed cropping areas, and so on. We'll be pulling this into the CoRE stack soon.
