Hi everyone, This will be an important CoP. Please do attend if you can. With the CoRE stack now storing data of many DPRs and village resources collected as primary data (unlike the secondary remote sensed that's been populated), we need to build data governance norms. A draft outline for discussion is here.

CoRE Stack Data Sharing and Governance Norms

-------------

Dear All,

We are pleased to invite you to the 11th CoRE Stack Community of Practice (CoP) Session, where we will discuss an important topic at the heart of digital public infrastructure and community stewardship:

Who Owns Community Data? Join the Conversation.

Every resource mapped and every natural resource management (NRM) demand documented through Commons Connect is built on the knowledge, participation, and trust of communities. As CoRE Stack continues to grow, it is important that we collectively establish principles for how community-generated data is governed, shared, and protected.

This Community of Practice session will bring together our partner organizations to explore how CoRE Stack can strengthen community-led data governance, ensuring that primary datasets generated through Commons Connect—including resource mapping and NRM work demands—remain under community ownership while enabling transparent, responsible, and consent-based data sharing.

The discussion will also highlight the critical role of our Civil Society Organization (CSO) partners as facilitators, supporting communities in understanding their rights over the data they generate and ensuring that community decisions remain central to the stewardship process. Here is a short draft note on the proposed CoRE Stack Data Sharing and Governance Norms for your kind reference.
