Caley Roark: I really liked most of what I experienced in the demo. Pulling off tricks is fluid and easy, the animations look great (save for some moments when players are sprinting) and the presentation is slick.
The game reminds me of the NFL and NBA Street games, which also focused on style as much as scoring. Even the World Tour mode echoes those past games; I love that you create a team, level up your character, and can pull in your friends' players.
My biggest concern is floor space, as others have mentioned. It feels too confined, which eliminates a lot of passing strategy. My initials games seemed to focus on beating one defender at a time until the offense zone was flooded with my players. I'd prefer a more dynamic passing game that relies on quick strategy; this doesn't seem possible with the tiny courts.
Kelvin Mak: I pretty much agree with all of Bo's and Jayson's points.
Visually, like FIFA, Street is an impressive looking game. The graphics are beautifully done, and the animations sleek. From a technical standpoint, the game is great.
What I'm concerned with is FIFA Street's attempt to strike that balance between sim and arcade. I too expected the game to be a lot more helter skelter, but obviously it isn't. I'm not too wild about it -- as the saying goes, when you try to be everything to everyone, you're nothing to no one. So ultimately it feels eerily similar to FIFA 12, except in a smaller space.
Another worry, one that hope will be tweaked for the full release, is that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of player differentiation. Controlling Nesta doesn't feel drastically different from controlling Nani, and if that is indeed the case for the full version, I can see the game getting old quicker than it should.
So the bottom line is that while I'm still having a good time with it (especially playing against friends), I just don't know if FIFA Street has enough depth to match its $60 price tag.
In one minute I'll be announcing the announcement that the new demo of FIFA 12 will be being announced in a few minutes. That's a new demo for FIFA 12 that I will tell you has been released just as soon as I've announced that I'm announcing its imminent announcement. There's a FIFA 12 demo out! Wait, damn, that was too soon.
Gosh, I love foot-to-ball. I'm its number one fan. Every week you can see me by the rink side, hollering for my favourite team to get more points than the other one, and win the county cup. Which is why it'll come as no surprise to anyone that I'm here to tell you all about the new demo for FIFA 12. (Some people may not be as familiar with the sport as I, and not know that FIFA stands for Foot-to-ball Is Flipping Awesome, but now you do.)
So I set myself up with a round of the game, in which I played OM (a transcendental meditative team), fighting against BVB (the good old Brian's Vibrant Boys). We played two frames, during which I was able to experience the new Tactical Defending elements of the game. They're pretty self explanatory, but I played through the tutorial anyway, where I was informed obvious things like,
"Holding RB calls a teammate to pressure the dribbler. If held while the player you are controlling is containing him, your teammate will Double the dribbler. Have your teammate contain the dribbler for 6 seconds to complete the drill."
I'll tell you what - some feet touched some balls in those field events! There were tackles, a couple of headers, and at least one point was scored every half-round. It was thrilling, as the commentators let me know. The good thing about the commentary in FIFA 12's demo is that it's able to remind you of the events that happened about 30 seconds before they're said, because otherwise such things are all too easy to forget.
I thought I'd have a kickaround on the Fifa 13 demo so that I could actually sprinkle the pepper of opinion upon the scant sliver of information in this post. Sadly, it doesn't work for me and I don't know why and don't have time to correct the issue. The Fifa 13 demo is now on Origin. It probably has new animations for celebrating goals, maybe even a Usain Bolt type thing to try and bring all of sport together, unless there's a license to pay for that particular pose. Now I've made myself a little glum by imagining/realising that it's possible to copyright a pose.
For the demo, the teams included are Manchester City, Arsenal, AC Milan, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, and doubling up on the last gasp champions of England, the Etihad is the stadium of choice. As for the full game, the things I'm most interested in are international tournaments and qualification, and the presence of a song called 'Sweet Sipping Soda' on the soundtrack. Never heard it, just like the name. I'll probably enjoy the game as much as ever (quite a lot) but I'm tempted to try out PES this year as well.
Unfortunately the FIFA 16 demo can't be downloaded anymore from Origin. I would trully love to be able to add the FIFA 16 demo to my Origin library so that I could play the best recreation to the sport to date on my PC. Actually I would be ok to pay the full game price a second time, just to be able to play the demo at home.
And that wraps up my intital thoughts on the FIFA 12 demo. No doubt as players get used to the system we will see some truly brilliant goals and the like, but in the meantime I leave you will some fancy passing I pulled off courtesy of Pato and Imbrahimovic. Enjoy the demo, and good day to you all.
With the next-generation version of FIFA '07 due to launch on Xbox 360 before the end of the year, Electronic Arts has shoved a demo version up on Xbox Live Marketplace, which ought to give me something to concentrate on while Crouch is busy saving England again tomorrow afternoon.
There's no immediate word on what's in the demo (since it takes my poor little router a good little while to download 827 megabytes), but past EA FIFA demos have thrown up an exhibition match between whichever teams are in vogue at the time. So probably not my beloved Liverpool then.
Anyway, Xbox Live's ever-useful director of programming Major Nelson informs us that the demo is available in all Xbox Live regions, so go and get your fill. Alternatively, how about some predictions for tomorrow? My money's on 2-0. And for some reason I think Scotland are going to beat France.
The demo only only allows you to play games at Santiago Bernabu Stadium in Spain with three minute halves. You have your choice of six teams: Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, F.C. Barcelona, Juventus, Olympique Lyonnians and Real Madrid. A nice feature of the demo is that you can play on any of the game's five difficulty levels.
After watching the advanced defensive tutorial video, I decided to take some of those moves for a test drive. Even though I initially thought it was going to be tough to pull off the new moves, it was actually pretty easy.
If the final version can live up to what I have built up in my mind, it might walk away with the prestigious Game Rant Sports Game of the Year Award. There have already been some great sports games released this year, and with NBA Elite and NBA 2K11 still to come, its looking to be a tough decision.
FIFA demos, the way fans may recall, had a try out mode with a few available teams to pick and use as well as new new titles in Kick-Off mode. However, the last demo was seen way back ahead of the FIFA 20 version, and it's probably not coming back!
For the first time ever, the EA Sports FIFA Video game will feature women's national teams. The United States will obviously be one of the featured teams that you'll be able to play with when the full game releases on September 22.
If you cannot wait that long to try out the Lady Yanks in FIFA then here is some good news for you. On September 8, EA Sports will be releasing a downloadable demo for FIFA 16. The demo will have 12 playable teams including two women's teams. The USA will be one and Germany will be the other.
The addition of women's teams into FIFA has been a long time coming and one that thankfully has finally come to fruition. Unfortunately for all you dreamers out there that had aspirations of pitting the USWNT vs. the USMNT in the game, it will not be possible as they've decided to keep restrictions on gender-specific match ups.
Here are all the clubs available in the demo: FC Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mnchengladbach, Chelsea FC, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid CF, River Plate, Seattle Sounders
With the full release of FIFA 18 only nine days away (Sept. 29), we got our hands dirty with the demo, and we somehow managed to learn five things while completely disregarding a plethora of other things in our actual lives (I will call you tomorrow, Grandma). And awaaay we go.
Gonzalo Higuain looks like he works in a cube answering customer service phone calls and Raheem Sterling looks like a miniature Mr. T. Also, David Silva is now a bald footballing brain in a jar and that development MUST be corrected before this game ships.
Whether the FIFA demo will return next year remains to be seen, as the whole concept has fallen out of favour in recent years, as publishers realised they often made people less likely to buy the full game.
Well, yesterday I downloaded FIFA 11 PC Demo,
it is totally different from the PC crap FIFA 10, they finally upgraded the graphics engine to be the same as xbox.360 and PS3...
It is really nice....Finally a good football game on PC !
Yeah I read 2 months ago that finally the pc version will be on par with the new consoles edition after years of utter crap ps2 ports, fifa2010 could easily run on a 10 year old pc, that's how really bad was the game..
on the other side Konami are promising some new enhanced game play mechanisms in PES11, I guess there might be a demo soon, PES 2010 was great but kinda slow and felt like an arcade football, they're saying they'll be back to their simulation roots..
