The Copy Cataloger assists the Cataloging & Metadata Librarian in the cataloging and processing of library materials, ensuring accuracy and consistency in catalog records. This role is essential to maintaining the integrity, discoverability, and accessibility
of the library's collection. This position also supports catalog cleanup efforts, coordinates with other library departments, and contributes to the library's overall goals and objectives. Through their work, they help staff and patrons effectively locate
and use library resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Locates, imports, and adapts pre-existing catalog records from OCLC (WorldCat) into the library's ILS (Sierra), applying standards such as MARC21, Library of Congress Classification (LCC), and Dewey Decimal Classification.

Reviews and edits catalog records to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to institutional and national standards, including verification of subject headings, classification numbers, and name authorities.

Identifies and corrects errors in bibliographic, holdings, and item records; update metadata to reflect changes in physical or electronic holdings.

Ensures accurate and completes metadata is applied to all resources to support discoverability and patron access.

Participates in inventory control projects and assist with processing new materials, including labeling, barcoding, and updating item-level data.

Works collaboratively with the Cataloging & Metadata Librarian and other departments to support shared workflows and cataloging initiatives.

Supervises student workers involved in physical processing or data entry tasks, as needed.

Provides support for routine operations and serve as backup for cataloging functions during staff absences.

Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED required; A Bachelor's degree or library-related coursework is preferred.

Data entry and experience working with technology needed; Previous experience in cataloging or working in a library setting is preferred.

Experience with cataloging software (OCLC, Sierra, MarcEdit)

Knowledge with MARC records and bibliographic cataloging rules

Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis

Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance

Must have the ability to demonstrate basic skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and other productivity software.

Must have ability to adapt quickly to new cataloging standards or systems.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; an ability to work effectively with communities across the university.

Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Library staff.
