Position Title Coordinator, Information Literacy & Liaison Librarian

Position Summary
The Coordinator, Information Literacy & Liaison Librarian is responsible for supporting and coordinating all Information Literacy instruction (both formal and informal) for undergraduate / graduate faculty in all disciplines and in all instructional modalities. Specifically, position develops and provides professional development for liaison librarians in impactful teaching and learning methodologies; works with the dean of libraries and directors in identifying areas for strategic development and co-curricular partnership opportunities; works with liaison, research librarians, faculty, and program leads in identifying/creating learning objects and building scaffolded instruction; supports undergraduate/graduate students and faculty in assigned disciplines in all instructional modalities through reference and research consultation; and works with faculty and collection development librarians in developing collections, discipline resources, and assisting with literature searches and other research activities. The Coordinator, Information Literacy & Liaison Librarian reports to the Director of Library Public Services.

Description of Job Duties
  • Continue to grow the UIW Libraries shared vision for information literacy tiered instruction which recognizes that the UIW Libraries are a part of the teaching, learning and research mission of the university.
  • Develop and provide appropriate professional development in impactful practices in teaching and learning methodologies.
  • Work closely with liaison and research librarians to assist with crafting learning objectives and to identify additional courses to support the tiered/scaffolded instruction model.
  • Serve on various academic and institutional committees and councils in support of the Libraries’ mission.
  • Support and coordinate all Information Literacy activities for undergraduate/ graduate and faculty in all disciplines and in all instructional modalities to include receiving requests and delegating requests for IL instruction to the appropriate Liaison & Research Librarian.
  • Keep statistics of all IL sessions, presentations and orientations and prepare a report at the end of each semester or upon request.
  • Provide analysis and reports related to areas of responsibility and in support of continuous improvement.
  • Work with the Coordinator of Assessment to periodically query faculty about their IL instruction experience.
  • Provide direct supervision to the Information Literacy & Liaison Librarian.
  • Manage the Mabee Library technology classroom.

Description of Job Duties
  • Support undergraduate/graduate students and faculty in assigned disciplines in all instructional modalities through reference and research consultation.
  • Develop, teach and assess co-curricular information literacy instruction and research activities for assigned liaison areas in collaboration with faculty and other instructional staff.
  • Create online artifacts and content that support assigned liaison areas.
  • Participate with all discipline liaison librarians in the development and delivery of graduate student orientations and workshops for assigned areas.
  • Work with the dean of libraries and directors in identifying areas for strategic development, continuous improvement, and co-curricular partnership opportunities.
  • Work directly with the Coordinator of Learning Assessment in the development of expertise in pedagogy, effective design, best practices in teaching and learning in all instructional modalities.
  • Work with the Assessment Coordinator to aid in the identification of appropriate assessments and report outcomes.
  • Work with faculty and program leads in identifying and creating learning objects and building scaffolded instruction and developing appropriate learning assessments.
  • Develop Library Impact Statements for new and changing academic programs and work with the Dean of Libraries on narratives and data for program accreditation.
  • Provide general and virtual information, research and reference support.

Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Expertise in developing and supporting a growing information literacy instruction program.
  • Expertise in adult learning and the management of a scaffolded learning approach through pedagogical design best practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of intellectual property concepts related to open access, open educational resources, open data, fair use, and predatory publishing.
  • Expertise in universal design and online pedagogy, the creation of digital artifacts, and in web publication standards such as ADA compliance.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills, including written, oral, and teaching/presenting.
  • Commitment to collegial working environment.
  • Commitment to working with racially and ethnically diverse students and faculty.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Required Education
Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA Accredited institution.
Required Work Experience
  • Three (3) years of experience in academic libraries working as a professional librarian in a similar/related position with responsibilities for information literacy instruction.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with faculty and students in providing reference/instruction and curricular support.
  • Three (3) years of experience developing interactive online artifacts in support of teaching, learning, and scholarship; developing courses/ trainings using course management software and other applications; and using discovery and bibliographic tools as a professional librarian.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience in academic libraries working as a professional librarian in a related position with direct responsibilities for coordinating adult teaching and learning activities in academic libraries.
  • At least two (2) years serving as a lead or overseeing services and programs in libraries
  • Direct responsibility for administering programs that support faculty and students conducting research.

Work Hours
Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with extended hours as needed to meet departmental goals, to include weekends.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to push/pull library/equipment carts weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage students, faculty, and guests as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat to retrieve library materials.
