So I know no one has worked on this for over a year now.  But I just found it and am having a lot of fun with it.  I've made some adjustments and want to have some version control.  I was curious if I should go ahead and commit to a new branch here or just make another repository and reference this one?  Sorry for what's probably a silly question but I've never worked on a public repo before.

Hi Brogan,

No this are not silly questions.

But it's hard to say. Adrea (main dev of coral) doesn't work on it anymore. The "cool" way could be you do a pull request on the repo but I'm not sure Adrea would take time to check it.

Coral is a very good piece of software but it need a main dev.

So, if Adrea didn't give any more precise advices I would suggest to fork coral and go ahead. :)

If you succeed to create a new (scientist?) community that would improve it it could be even better for coral!

Good luck!

Regards,

Dorian

Hi,

My understanding is that Andrea is now working for Fabric Engine.

I recall that FE has elements/foundations similar to Coral, as such, I doubt Andrea will be able to work on a FE (Commercial) and Coral (NewBSD) concurrently.

I am not a lawyer so that is my laymen interpretation.

Andrea is flat out with the recent SIGGRAPH through FE so we may have to wait a little for him to respond.

As for myself, I have contributed to Coral in the past through Procedural Insight Pty. Ltd. and may do so in future depending on the needs of the users/artists but paid work has to take priority as it pays the bills.

I am unable to take any leadership role to maintain Coral but am always happy to play the role of Build/Software Engineer, ensure that cross platform build of Coral is easily available for newbie to sink their teeth into i.e. a good out-of-the-box experience.

Cheers

Yeah, I sent Andrea an email, just haven't heard back yet.  If I don't, I'll probably fork it over to github, and make sure to point back to the google code.
I was thinking of making some adjustments to the attribute system that would make coral mesh better as a pipeline tool (i'm a pipe TD).  I like how the attribute specialization works but I've found that limiting the attributes to a type (str, num) limits how the nodes can be used.  Adding a polymorphic attribute (just stores an attribute) would work but would be hard to manage.  I was thinking that removing the type layer and using just specializations would work, too.  It just means a decent reworking of the attributes.
Anyway, I'll update here if I hear back from Andrea.  In case you guys are interested in following along.

Hi Brogan,

Thanks for taking the time to write and thanks to Dorian and Nicholas for replying while I was at siggraph, as pointed out I no longer maintain this project and my involvement with Fabric-Engine really means all my energies are focused on that technology.
If you are interested in going forward with Coral's development your best option is to probably create a repository of your own as the Coral branch will remain inactive.
I'd probably advice to still have a look at Fabric-Engine as its active development and unique features might make it appealing for your pipeline projects also, the project is held together by a relatively small group of passionate people and you'll find its community very active and responsive : )

Thanks,
Andrea

Thank you, Andrea.  If anyone is interested, I've setup a github repo here named (badly, but appropriately) coraline.  I've found myself with a bunch of free time so I've actually been able to sit down and work on some of the stuff I wanted to.  Thanks again to everyone who has helped create coral in the first place.

Stumbled on Coral looking for 3rd party and open source procedural geometry and simulation plug-ins for Maya.

Is there a Maya 2013.5 and/or 2014 build for Linux, Windows or Mac available to play with?

Thank you
Scott

Hey Scott,
To my knowledge there isn't a Maya plugin built for those versions.  Or at least I don't have one.  But, I don't currently have Maya installed.  However, you should be able to build one yourself.
