Dear friends,
neighbours, colleagues and festival partners,
My apologies for the impersonal nature
of this email. As you likely know, I have been organizing the second
summer of the Christie Pits Film Festival. Last year's venture, two
nights in August, had a wonderful response from the community and led
to high attendance numbers. This year, the festival is expanding to
offer a 3rd night of free open-air screenings in Christie
Pits park, as well as a fundraising/kick-off party preceding them.
The fundraiser will be on July 12th
at The Central at 6:30pm and will feature beer from Stone Hammer and
numerous silent auction items. Dufflet pastries and raffle tickets
are included in the admission cost (5$). TVO's Saturday Night At The
Movies host Thom Ernst will host the event.
Beginning July 22nd, the
Christie Pits Film Festival presents When We Were Young,
cinematic tales of youth and growing up, under the stars. On the
first Sunday evening (July 22) revel in Steven Spielberg’s Big,
a youthful romp about a boy who wishes to be a grown-up, only to find
his wish come true overnight. Then sit back and enjoy Giuseppe
Tornatore’s Cinema Paradiso on July 29th, a
coming-of-age tale of love and movies. Finally, new to the Festival
in 2012, come out to see the Viewer’s Choice on August 12th.
The public can vote for this title from three choices on the event's
Facebook page (An Education,
Rebel Without a Cause
and E.T.) and at the
fundraising party, through July 12th.
All three screenings of the Christie
Pits Film Festival are co-presented with Open Roof Festival, made
possible through a partnership with The Revue Cinema, and sponsored
in part by numerous local businesses.
Please mark your calendars for any or
all of the above events if they suit your interests. I would love to
see you there. Please feel free to circulate as widely as you feel
appropriate.
Best,
Emily
