After I copied something to the clipboard my firewall kicked in warning me that CopyQ.exe was attempting to access

172.67.156.135 (there was also a port, but I don't remember it now). Why should this be?

This shouldn't happen. Unless you define a command that does a network request (you can check Command dialog for the list of commands - F6 shortcut).

Where did you download CopyQ from?

Thank you for the reply. I downloaded CopyQ from https://hluk.github.io/CopyQ/ and also all commands that I use are from there. I wouldn't know how to make a command make a network request!

It doesn't do it for every clip, but it does happen from time to time.

Maybe it happens when you copy an HTML item and CopyQ tries to display it. I should look into this because I thought that the widget [1] to display rich text is not accessing the web.

You can disable storing and displaying HTML in configuration [2] and block network access for the app - by itself, CopyQ doesn't require network access.

BTW, is this something new that appeared in v3.12.0? (The new version contains some additional libraries for accessing https web sites from scripting.)

It happened/happens when I copy plain text URL addresses, that is not HTML formatted text. For example, I tried copying https://www.podnapisi.net and my firewall program (Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control) brought up CopyQ trying to access 91.185.207.128.

I noticed the problem quite recently and I believe it was after I installed v3.12.0 or at least I do not recall seeing it earlier.
I'll do another test and will report again.

I entered that URL in Notepad++ and I copied it with Ctrl-C. Before I pasted it in my browser the firewall warning appeared. So it definitely occurs with copied text URLs.
I attach an image of the firewall warning.

Not sure what can cause this.

One possibility is that the new libraries in CopyQ are trying to retrieve SSL certificates for some reason. You can try to exit CopyQ, delete "libssl-1_1.dll" and "libcrypto-1_1.dll" from your installation, start CopyQ again and test again.

If it doesn't help, you can also try disabling all commands (in Command dialog) and plugins (in Items configuration tab in Configuration) to see if anything changes.

I exited CopyQ, renamed the two libraries, restarted the PC. The attempt to connect to the Internet concerned only one of my test copied-to-clipboard URLs (http://www.tvsubtitles.net). When I went through the procedure again and reinstated the two libraries, all my test copied-to-clipboard URLs were attempting to connect to the Internet.

Should I block CopyQ.exe from connecting to the Internet either with inward or with outward connections?

Feel free to block CopyQ from accessing the network, it's not required for normal operation.
