Hello,

My name is Jay Smith. I am a systems administrator and website
developer for the Lantern at the Ohio State University. We are
currently running a College Publisher site. I am joining the group
after speaking with Albert Sun about his experiences with CoPress and
Drupal (as well as hosting options). I am interested in keeping in
touch with this community and hopefully contributing to the
organization as I gain some experience in this area. I have only been
in my position for about 3 months, so I will find it helpful to hear
from other people who are involved with college newspaper websites. I
have some experience with WordPress and Drupal, mainly as a hobby. I
hope to learn from the more experienced group members.

Jay

Hi Jay,

In what ways would you be interested in contributing beyond the community? Also, what kind of tech skills do you have?

Best,
Greg

Greg,

I used to do tech support for Applecare, I am pretty good at
troubleshooting Macs and PCs. I run a small webserver for a business
and am developing a Drupal site for that. I am also working towards
moving a company's website from standard html/css to a wordpress
format. I expect to have that done by the end of the school year (only
work on it in my spare time). I expect to become proficient at WP
during this process. I have used it in the past, but would not
consider myself an expert at this point.

I am interested in assisting people with troubleshooting software
issues and contributing ideas for the usage of WP plugins, etc. I also
hope to develop my PhP skills and assist others with some coding
stuff. This is my first time doing development stuff as part of my
full time job, so I want to be exposed to as much technical stuff as
possible, and hopefully share those experiences with others who need
help.

Eventually, I would like to work on open source wordpress plugins that
would enhance the platform to mimic much of the functionality of
College Publisher. I don't know enough about coding now, but I have
been studying object oriented stuff for a while now and hope to write
some stuff that others could use.

I am probably just going to check out the other posts in the group and
investigate terminology that looks unfamiliar until I get up to speed
on everything. I have only been at this job for a few months and am
sure that I will be able to offer a lot more to this community as I
gain experience.

Thanks,

Jay
