Hi - Three men named George Copplestone were all born in Guernsey and
subsequently moved to Liverpool. Anyone here know any more about them?
1. The first George was born in Guernsey, Channel Islands, around 1807
and died in 1871, shortly after being recorded on the 1871 census as
pauper in the Liverpool workhouse, a joiner aged 64.
2. The second George, also a joiner and possibly son of George #1, was
born in Guernsey in 1828. He married Elizabeth (Wylie?) from Liskeard,
Cornwall, their children include George #3 born St Peter Port, Guernsey
in 1852, Elizabeth born Plymouth 1853, and at least five more all born
in Liverpool from 1861. Note that in the 1871 census on Ancestry,
George #2 is incorrectly recorded as being born in Germany, but the
census page clearly says Guernsey.
3. George #3 born Guernsey 1852, obviously moved to Liverpool with his
parents some time in the mid 1850s. He appears on the 1861/71/81/91
censuses. His sister Elizabeth married my GGG Grandfather Henry
McKibbin in 1871.
If anybody has any information about these Copplestones then please let
me know. I don't yet have access to the Channel Islands 1851 census
but the 1841 census at this site
http://members.shaw.ca/jerseymaid/
lists no entries for Copplestone (or Copleston, or joiners with a
similar name).
Please respond to group or if you prefer you can email me on

Cheers
