Sanford,

Sounds like this should be a great event, thought you might want to share this call for volunteers with both your students (well former students) and the CooBrix community.

Small chance that I'll decide to head to NYC sometime towards the end of July myself - need to get there sometime this summer.

Hope your summer is good,

Shannon

From http://www.thelasthope.org:

<blockquote>

 We all knew these days would come. The Last HOPE is the seventh
 Hackers On Planet Earth conference. Join the rest of the hacker
 community from around the world July 18 to July 20, 2008 for this
 momentous occasion at the historic Hotel Pennsylvania in New York
 City.

 There will be three days and nights of speakers along with all
 sorts of activities to keep you entertained and enlightened. We
 have a tremendous amount of space for us to make use of and it's
 all right in the middle of the city, across the street from Penn
 Station. You still have time to get involved in this historic
 event, whether by attending, volunteering, speaking, or creating
 something new that none of us have thought of yet.

 The Last HOPE. If you miss this one, there's nothing left to say.

 In lieu of donations, flowers are requested.

The Free Software Foundation is looking for a few strong
Lispers^WGNU/Linuxers^W^Wpartisans to sit at the FSF booth, repel
boarders, and keep both interior and forward lines of
communication open.

The pay is non-existent, the watch dull, but the duty is
honorable.

If you would like to volunteer, please write to me or to
Jeanne Rasata <jra...@fsf.org> of the FSF.

Below is the official Call for Volunteers.

 Subject: [FSF] Need volunteers in New York City, 7/18 - 7/20

 Greetings,

 The Free Software Foundation is going to have a table at an upcoming event
 in New York City. I'm writing because we need your help from July 18th
 through July 20th to help run the table.

 Talking to folks at conferences is a great way to help spread the word
 about free software and a great way to help us increase our membership
 base. And, as it turns out, it's also fun!

 The tabling hours are from 08:30 to 17:30. The conference takes place at
 Hotel Pennsylvania at 33rd Street and 7th Avenue in New York City.

 We'll need 1-2 people for each of the following "shifts" so if you want
 to, you can table with a friend. Let me know when you'd most like to help
 out and whether you have any flexibility:

     * 08:30 - 11:30
     * 11:30 - 14:30
     * 14:30 - 17:30

 I look forward to hearing from you. Please let me know if you have any
 questions.

 Many thanks,
 --
