Hey there,

Many of you know Terry Daniels and Linda Hogan, or are familiar with the Portland Hour Exchange. Did you know that the program was featured on PBS? And that the series was so wildly popular that they have turned it into a full-length documentary? If there are communities in Maine other than Portland (which I assume will already be one of the hosts showing the doc!) that would like to build a community event around a showing, with a "call to action", this looks like a good opportunity. See below!

Hi Noemi,

You may already be aware of this, but the folks who made the Fixing the Future documentary are looking for local groups to host a showing of the film in many, many cities and towns on July 18th.  I promised Terry Daniels I’d help promote it. Would you be willing to work your networks. Here’s their email.  Take a look and let me know.

Thanks,

Jen

Fixing the Future Across America

On Wednesday, July 18, 2012, Transition Towns will have an unprecedented opportunity to be a part of a national effort to support local economic initiatives.

On this day, Fixing the Future, a documentary that showcases working models for thriving economies, will screen in at least 50 theaters in cities across the U.S. Due to a wildly successful PBS version, the filmmakers have made a new, feature length version of the documentary that you can be among the first to see.

In Fixing the Future, host David Brancaccio (of NOW on PBS) visits people and organizations across America that are attempting a revolution: the reinvention of the American economy. By featuring communities using sustainable and innovative approaches to create jobs and build prosperity, Fixing the Future inspires hope and renewal in a people overwhelmed by economic collapse.

The film highlights effective, local practices such as: local business alliances, community banking, time banking/hour exchange, worker cooperatives and local currencies. Following the documentary, audiences will enjoy a pre-taped discussion panel featuring luminaries <http://www.billmckibben.com/> Bill McKibben, <http://www.ted.com/speakers/majora_carter.html> Majora Carter, <http://www.rbf.org/people/richard-rockefeller> Richard Rockefeller and <http://brancaccio.com/index.php/about> David Brancaccio.

Watch the trailer:   <http://vimeo.com/41173330> http://vimeo.com/41173330

Where the film is shown depends largely on local interest. So the Fixing the Future team is actively seeking local “hosts†for each of the screenings who will not only get an opportunity to introduce the film, but will also present a local call-to-action geared toward sustainable solutions, such as a “move your money†community banking initiative, the development of a community garden, or the creation of a worker cooperative. The media strategy group  <http://www.activevoice.net> Active Voice will be available to help hosts maximize these events as an opportunity to garner new supporters while also being tied to a larger, national movement.

I help organize a film series at the Peace and Justice Center in Bangor. I'll put this on our agenda for our fall series, and see what people think. For our series we find that shorter films work better for discussion, but we occasionally show a
feature-length film.

We are helping to organize a screening in Portland, it would be great if other people can help organize screenings throughout the state.

The Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine could provide space for a screening, and advertise on its e-mail list. If there is anyone in the Bangor area who would be interested in organizing a screening, please get in touch with me.

Michael, you may want to contact www.rivercitycinema.com
Also you might want to contact the Worker's center www.foodandmedicine.org
The www.midmetimebank.org is working with Tom Grogan to start a timebank and they might be able to help organize a screening.
