Hi all!
I think the case for a tool library for building community wealth and a solidarity economy is quite clear! The tool library was broken in and had all of their tools stolen, and are
doing a fundraiser to replace the tools. From them:
The all-volunteer DC Tool Library lost many vital tools and equipment during break-ins in early February. This free neighborhood resource has been empowered by DC residents’ tool donations since 2019, and in turn, has empowered residents by providing access to tools for home repairs, maintenance, community projects, and more. Now, the Library’s ability to carry out its mission is at risk. The replacement value of the tools stolen is about $11,000.
Besides replacing the tools—through donations and repurchasing—the tool library urgently needs to invest in insurance and improved security measures, including an alarm system, lighting, and cameras. The total estimate is about $15,000, which they can reach with your help.
