An Evening to Benefit the ROC United and COLORS DC

Wednesday, March 25th, 6:00 - 8:30pm

 Hear the latest from Saru Jayaraman and others about the Restaurant Opportunity Center (ROC) United’s national One Fair Wage Campaign, including a DC Ballot Initiative), and help to establish a unique community restaurant & hub for building a sustainable food system in DC.

Saru Jayaraman is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC-United) and Director of the Food Labor Research Center at University of California, Berkeley. Saru has received numerous awards including CNN’s Top10 Visionary Women award, the White House “Champions of Change” Award, and the Campaign for America's Future, Paul Wellstone Citizen Leadership Award, all in 2014. Saru is the author of 'Behind the Kitchen Door' and has a forthcoming book due to be released in 2016.

 
The Restaurant Opportunities Centers (ROC) United seeks to improve wages and working conditions for restaurant workers nationwide. Since 2001 ROC has grown into a national restaurant workers’ organization with close to 14,000 low-wage restaurant worker members, 120 employer partners, and several thousand consumer members in 32 localities nationwide.

 COLORS is a restaurant owned and operated by ROC United with locations in New York and Detroit and coming soon to Washington DC. COLORS connects the economic empowerment of low-wage workers to the promotion of healthy environments and communities, and helps build a sustainable food system. A Restaurant Training Facility: The COLORS Hospitality Opportunities for Workers (CHOW) Institute is a unique workforce-development program that provides low-wage restaurant workers with skills to advance to livable-wage positions.

Culinary Academy: A collaboration with Mark Bittman to create a Bittman Culinary Curriculum for COLORS
