Dear CoolProp users,
I've been working at NIST for the last two years in the group that develops REFPROP. As of a little more than a week ago, I have a permanent position at NIST (yay!) working on thermophysical model development and further developments to REFPROP.
Part of this transition is that I am going to be moving away from CoolProp development. I have warned of this transition before, but this time, it's for real. My plan is to finalize the 6.2 release of CoolProp, and then quite rapidly step away from CoolProp development. This means that I am going to stop adding features to CoolProp, and might even leave the mailing list and stop fixing issues completely.
Working on CoolProp development has brought me significant pleasure over the last few years, and I especially appreciate the personal and professional relationships that have come out of this development process. I would especially like to thank the University of Liege and the Technical University of Denmark, whose support has been instrumental in getting CoolProp off the ground. To all those that have contributed pull requests, code, and reported bugs, THANK YOU!!
What does the future look like for CoolProp? It's in YOUR hands. I plan to retain a role as
Benevolent dictator for life to review code in the form of pull requests on github; even that level of involvement might be up for discussion with my management. Aside from that, I plan to have an extremely limited presence with CoolProp. So if you have been waiting to have an impact in CoolProp, NOW IS THE TIME!!
With a heavy heart, goodbye!
Ian
