I figured I would start a new thread given Chauncey has inked some deals and become an international artist. Above is a throwback feature from Killer Robots Crash and Burn from the Maryland times. Probably one of the only CG heavy versions of Chauncey. There's actually quite a bit of effort regarding the visual aesthetic. Very little dialogue though.

Are you all ready for the Chauncey-era? Stamps on his passport like it's fast-paced sport.

I remember seeing the robot pic on his IMDb page and wondering what that one was about. Speaking of which he has a new on pic on there:

chauncey.jpg

He actually looks adult-ish here. Just imagine if he grew a proper beard and shaved his head. He could easily look the part of a late 30s/early 40s character, but I don't think he has the acting chops to pull it off.

Under the circumstances, I think Shawn C. Phillips is actually doing very well.  He's gotten more work late, and it's been steady as well.

And it looks like Shawn is getting more challenging roles, e.g. playing working adults, instead of playing teenagers or youngish emotionally stunted adults.  Though Shawn is still clearly emotionally stunted in real life, he's trying to get out of his comfort zone.  I think the pandemic actually helped Shawn, b/c he sees everybody struggling, so it's a fresh start for Shawn in some ways, and he's taking advantage of it.  It's an equalizer for Shawn -- he's no longer behind.  This is his moment to rise to the occasion and be the actor he's meant to be while most actors continue to collect unemployment.

And Shawn is willing to hustle and take any role it seems.  His hustle is slowly paying off...

Good point, I actually do think he probably does see this as an leveling of playing grounds.

Now that he's getting better roles, it will lead to more exposure. I do think if he prepared his reviews better, and made more polished concise videos; he could double his fanbase pretty quickly. I think he needs to capitalize off this momentum.

Shawn C. Phillips lacks business savvy to pull it off.  He is relying on old school hustle to make it.  I do admit as much as we harp on him for his poor acting skills and his monotonous DVD shopping Tuesday, he definitely knows how to hustle in getting these roles.

I also hate to admit but considering he is not SAG and hasn't had any formal acting training, he is pulling off quite an impressive resume.  He is working harder than many working actors who are SAG and have formal training.  So perhaps some of us are projecting on Shawn C. Phillips.  lol

He is getting more roles than many SAG union actors.

We make fun of Shawn and assume he spends all day watching movies, but he may be telling the truth: we don't know what's going on in his life.  He could very well be spending his days networking and reaching out to independent filmmakers and producers and letting them know he's available, and he's cheap, and he's easy to work with and isn't demanding.

What he does isn't impressive at all. He's getting paid pennies to work on Z grade movies that no one is ever going to watch. If he didn't have his parents paying all of his bills he'd be starving to death.

The interesting thing is he doesn't really see his parents supporting him as an advantage or factor to his lifestyle. Last night he accused Brendan of "always complaining" and mocked the situation where the key broke off in the ignition, causing the Mitchell's to spend money when they are already struggling. He simply doesn't relate to the financial struggle that Brendan has.

That's low even for him. He's gonna keep fucking around and Brendan is gonna smack the shit out of him at a convention or something.

Shawn and his family always came across as a bit snobby to me. Kimmykat's portrayal of Brendan's mom seemed like low-key poor shaming. Watching TV all day, smoking cigarettes, looking tired, etc. Shawn made fun of MJ for working at Starbucks (I remember the huge grin on his face when MJ mentioned walking several miles to work) and took a shot at Brendan for having messed up teeth. If you watch some of the older videos Shawn did with his family, they would always complain about service workers. It was usually over something trivial.

Always thought that was pretty low too, with them making fun of Brendan's mother like that.

Shawn and his parents also gave MJ mess about him living with his mother after the initial falling out between Shawn and MJ. If you're going to make fun of someone for that, then if that's not the pot calling the kettle black then I don't know what is.

And a few years back, not long after they first moved to California, they had this one video where Shawn uploaded a video where Herb flipped off this elderly lady for "almost hitting him with her car". I remember people in the comments pointing out how the woman wasn't anywhere close to almost hitting him. They have and do some odd things for sure.

The whole family is entitled and whiny. In those old family outing videos they'd pretty much bitch and moan the entire time about every little mundane thing they came across.

Hot off the press! Just released this week. Asteroid-A-Geddon, starring Eric Roberts and Shawn C Philips. Chauncey portrays a sophisticated coder that misses the scent of his ex-girlfriend.

I doubt it. Can you imagine Shawn having sex? Hat on and everything and him constantly smiling. "Oh my, this is quite something! It's kinda weird and wet and sticky. I don't knooooooow. I'll keep going I suppose".

Wow that was really strange! I had to buy the condominiums earlier today and I went to Walmart just to check the prices, I thought maybe Target would have a better deal and I had to go there anyway to see if they have any new $10 4K digipacks but I had to look in the section, turns out they were more expensive so I went back to Walmart and got the regular kind, not the ribbed because it just might be too weird yukk.....I don't know, I don't know if I want that ribbed sensation on my body. Well now that we're done how about we go to my basement and watch some movies? Okay we'll cuddle, I don't know If i want to get to close though, I'm not big on hugging or kissing and you're a bit sweaty, geez I think I should have a shower. I don't like being hot and sweaty in my bedroom, it just....feels.....strange. * starts laughing like a little old lady*.

Chauncey's Lover - "Let's do something wild and risky! Let's raw-dog!"

Chauncey - *hesitates* "that sounds weird and strange, but OK"
*takes off hat, but keeps it on his bedstand under his signed "Zombie Pig Fisters 12" poster, so it's always within reach*.

Some more Chauncey movie scenes coming soon. They have been flagged for copyright - not sure if that's automated, or if Chauncey is actively trying to remove the videos.

Chauncey has now been cast in a new Tony Todd horror film.

I must admit he's really starting to move up from z-grade films with no recognizable names, to d-grade that are more finely tuned with bigger budgets and recognizable names. He has enough influence that he can get Cinestalker and Luna bit roles, Shame he won't be sharing the screen with Brendan any time soon though.

It's good he is moving up the ladder but he is nearly 40. I'm not saying he shouldn't chase the dream but he's lucky to be with his parents just now and the acting is pretty much a hobby at this stage. It's never going to be a full time career.

I've liked a lot of Luna's videos lately.

Brendan seems to be trying to sell things for profit on Ebay and he's lucky too. They're in a position where they are nearly 40 years old but they are still the babies of the family. Once you take the parents away then the safety net goes. It's  up to Brendan's sister and Brother in Law if they want to keep him on as a tenant. I think their best days are behind them now and I don't see much changing.

He's one good role away from moving up to being a Netflix regular. He either needs to perform VERY well in a comedic role (needs to steel the show from the lead actor/s),;

or needs to do something moving emotionally moving. I.E. If he portrayed a man that's embarrassed about his body (i.e. loose skin) that learns to be confident (male stripper, ladies man etc) - kinda like Magic Mike.
a good script with a believable performance (needs to cry and shit) could be ground breaking for him. He just needs to take that risk, and a director needs to give him the stage and platform .

It's less that Shawn is "moving up the ladder" and more that these washed-up actors are fading into obscurity. There was always an off chance that some big director or producer would take a chance on him, but that has yet to materialize. I still think his peak was Haunted High and Ghost Shark.

Shawn was still at his peak in the early 2010s when he appeared in SyFy movies as well as Showtime (He had a supporting role in the TV series "Look" on Showtime).

Most of the films he's appearing are begging for funds through Indiegogo, so they are not exactly A-list movies or studio backed movies.  They appear to be independently financed, but are asking for help for money from the public.

Still, Shawn is getting more work than usual.  I suspect it's b/c he's helping out financially though (with his parents' money of course), and may be paying to appear in these movies?  A lot of these Indiegogo funded films will give you roles, including lead roles, if you finance these films.

No way Shawn will become a Netflix regular.  He's not even SAG, I don't think?  Though it's possible that he may be invited to SAG and will get roles in SAG movies and television shows soon, albeit in bit roles or as background extras, e.g. college kid in background.

didn't Shawn C. Phillips also talk about "hoping" to get roles in Lifetime or Hallmark Rom coms?

Funny enough, I can see Shawn C. Phillips actually being a fan of rom coms, in addition to horror movies and children's flicks.  I think for Shawn, he's never really been in a "real" relationship in his life (he will claim otherwise and say that he wants to keep his relationships "private") so rom coms for him is his way of "vicariously" experiencing meaningful relationships with the opposite sex.

Shawn though I think is open to dating, though I can't really see him dating anybody else other than a fellow YouTuber who's a horror movie buff, or an actress or make-up artist who works primarily in horror movies.

Yep, working on a Lifetime / Hallmark rom com is one of the goals he has set for himself. By his own admission; he thinks he would be more suitable for the "weird best friend" of the lead.
I still think a dramatic film with Chauncey crying would really benefit his career.

He has referenced Clint Howard as one of his favorite actors and wants a niche' career like him. He has opened up to that by being hatless in his latest film, and making fun of his baldness.

I don't think he is paying to be in these films; these films are targeted at Chauncey's demographic. They want their films plugged to his 80k subscribers.
He's just taking his day rate (aka minimum wage), and wants transportation and hotels covered. He wont stay at hostels either; needs his own room.

I think a smallish role on Netflix is possible given his recent trajectory. He's sharing scenes with Andy Dick and Eric Roberts nowadays.

Chauncey has nabbed a role portraying a weathered cowboy. Interesting to see him portray a character in their 40's to early 50's. Refreshing from the typical horny college drunk he's played in the past.

This look sort of works for him, but a weathered cowboy wouldn't be that pale lol. At least the hat isn't out of place.
